Featured Folks Of Interest Let's Help Brian aka GimpysHotRods!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Pocket Nick, Jan 15, 2026.

  1. To the mods, I asked @Ryan permission beforehand to post this and it was granted so please don't delete it, thank you!

Hi all I am sure you have all had interactions with @gimpyshotrods at some point in time here on the HAMB. He has always been willing to dispense advice on all sorts of topics when that help and advice was requested. Now it's our turn to help him out.

In February 2025, almost a year ago, Brian was struck head on by a hit and run driver that crossed all lanes of traffic, and it very nearly killed him had he not been wearing his helmet. He was riding his bicycle towards his home. The driver was found to be 100% at fault for the incident. Brian now has permanent brain damage and reduced physical abilities due to surgeries to repair damage to his body. He has lost income from 2 full time jobs as a result and now, though back at work, he struggles to do those jobs in the present time. All legal avenues to seek justice and make him whole again have resulted in dead ends. The driver was identified and found, but the SFPD will not arrest this person. The DA won't move forward to slap the driver with the 4 felonies he is en***led to receive. On top of all of that the perpetrator has no meaningful ***ets to be sued over, leaving Brian with a $75K debt he didn't ask for.

Brian is potentially looking at liquidating all of his cars, tools and shop space to pay off the balance, and if you ask me, that is a raw deal. This situation was not his fault and he should not have to risk losing everything he has worked hard for. If you can donate that would be the most rad thing to do, but help getting this information and fundraiser out there far and wide would also be beneficial and welcomed.

We can help out a good and knowledgeable guy to keep him from losing his livelihood and p***ion. The link to the fundraiser is below. Thank you all who have read this far! -Nick

Sadly, I can relate to this story as something similar happened to my late mother. It forever changed our family. Donated and hoping things work out.

Just made my donation. While I may not always agree with Gimpy aka Brian on certain matters his automotive and mechanical advice is always spot on IMO. His DMV advice for when I bought my Ranch Wagon with only a bill of sale saved me untold grief and probably some $$ as well. Hoping that he continues to recover and doesn't have to sell any of his cars.

I’m in, Gimpy’s advice and expertise has helped me a ton on my Falcon Ranchero project. I hope you’re back to full capacity soon.

Done! Gimpy is a stand up guy! Good luck to you going forward.

  9. That would be the former, I think he likes hot rods too much to shoot one...unless its with a camera I suppose. And thank you!

  13. He definitely knows the ins and outs of the DMV processes, shame he doesn't do the VIN verification thing anymore.

  14. Right on, hopefully he will still have his Falcon by the time this is all over, now that we have the off topic forum he could throw up a build thread, lots of little tricks and modifications in that one.

Done. That's a **** situation. I'll complain about our bureaucratic state here in Austria til the cows come home but one of the things they got right was compulsory 3rd party motor insurance - you cannot register a vehicle without it so it takes away 99% of all the issues. All the best to Brian, work hard on getting mended.

Adding: we also have a law obliging one to ***ist in case of an accident and heavy penalties for hit & run, the **** who ran him over would have been in a world of hurt now, criminal and civil.

Well that didn't work. My credit card data entry kept failing - I had to change browsers from Firefox to Chrome (I almost had to call a grandchild for help ;)).

  28. If Brian provides his PayPal e-mail address, it will open up another avenue for funds. Sending via PayPal friends and family sends 100% of the amount.
