No.....'50's Dodge, Chryslers were Hemi's or flathead sixes. The Plymouth had a "poly" motor...but this is not a Poly motor. midnight340
SORRY TO INFORM YOU, BUT DODGE & CHRYSLER BOTH HAD POLY MOTORS IN THE 50s ... I HAD A '55 DODGE WITH A 270 POLY & I KNOW WHERE THERE IS A '56 CHRYSLER WITH A POLY
LOOKING AT IT AGAIN... IT COULD BE AN IHC BEEN AWHILE SINCE I SAW AN IHC... EXHAUST MANIFOLDS LOOK LIKE MOPAR COULD BE AN EARLY 60s WIDE BLOCK 318 HELL, NOW IM CONFUSED
It sure looks like a Spitfire Poly engine. These were introduced in '55 with the Saratoga's and Windsor's and continued through '58. They were referenced as the Spitfire motors in Chrysler literature. These poly's were based off the Hemi blocks and can be converted by subs***uting parts.
Looks like a 56 Dodge 315 or 57 325. 4 barrel versions are fairly rare. Could be a Chrysler 303 or 354 or a Desoto as well but it comes from the 1955-1958 Era. Spitfire was a name usually exclusive to Chrysler but I have seen 56-57 Dodges that came from the factory with the Spitfire engines. Canadian Dodges also used Chrysler Polys. Never say never when it comes to Mopar.
I should not have started spouting off when I only know the Plymouth heads on my '56 270, ...so once again I gotta learn sumpthin?
For more info on Poly motors...try http://www.geocities.com/polyman64/ Home of the Polyspheric Engine ***ociation. Tech editor is online friend Gary Pavlovich... very knowledgable guy!
the only pic I could find of a 354 poly on the internet quickly...should confirm that the engine is identified...?
CHRYSLER Looks like a 1956 judging by the water pump, which would make it a 331CID poly. What do I win?
Thought it might be a Frink but didn't think they made a V8. This being a poly makes more sense, and seems to have been proven.
ii'm sure it's been determined already, but it's definitly a Poly of some vintage, here's a shot of my friend Anton's in his 52 dodge pickup(engine was from a '57 chrysler if i recall).

Here's a couple pictures of a '55 Plymouth I found out near Battle Mt., NV a few years ago. This is just a FYI.
guys - It's a first generation mopar poly motor; most likely a '56 on account of the Carter WCFB on the manifold. 331 cubic inches, 250 HP. here's a pic of the same motor in my '55...it's got the later 4bbl on account I added it after the fact.
Water pump and carb say '56, the car it's in looks like '55-56 to me. So what is the bodystyle? A '56 Windsor is a damned good looking car...
