I'm trying to work out the bench seat in my '30 Ford roadster. The area at the back of the seat where it meets the panel above the deck lid is in question. I don't want to use the stock seat adjuster. Let's see how it was done back in the day before there were mini van seats available with the usual Mexican blanket. We all know how to do that.
I am running mini van seat in my 28 roadster and love it, but i am looking to go some other way as I cannot find a seat cover for it. If anyone knows of a good one post up. The part I really like is it folds down and fits perfect.
AHH... ok, I took that wrong then, I got the impression you built the wood frames, sorry about that. Mangus is a guru, for certain
I'd like to see some traditional seating too I may want to actually do something with one of my roadsters some day
im interested in seeing some also i hate the caravan seat in mine way unconfortable on long runs...jeffrey
Just got this back a couple of weeks ago. I was ready to sell this puppy until a local trimmer custom fit the back with a lumbar support and redid the seat base with webbing and foam. Also replaced the naugahyde tonneau cover with canvas. A joy to drive again.
I am using a S-10 bench seat in our '32 roadster. Had to chop it about 5" in the middle and plug it all back togeather. Repadded it and recovered it with vinyl s***ched with wide 4" pleats and stuck in two of those Speedway heated seat kits! We are using the stock mount brackets and slider - bolts right to the floor. The only thing I would have done differently are the sides of the seat back - they are straight up and down. I would have added a little extra padding to the sides so the seat back would flair outward slightly like the seat bottom does. Anyway, it looks great and feels better...
Pay attention to this part guys. Don't build a seat without it, especially if your roadster doesn't have a top.......and please, whatever you do, please do the webbing on both sides, not just the drivers side.
There's a couple different versions of the ChryCo two p***enger mini van seat. This is a later model, into the early 2000's I believe (a yard sale special). Note the single armrest. Here's an earlier model, mid 90's and it comes with two armrests. The older one is very comfortable and quite a bit plusher than the late model. You can find both seats still in very good condition because a lot of mini van owners pulled the middle two p***enger seat and moved the rear three p***enger seat forward so they could haul more stuff. Lotta times the seats get forgotten at trade-in and show up at garage sales. A 1" square tubing frame is easy to build. You'll need one for most early cars to get the seat lower. The seat in the trailer is on the stock frame.
Built mine from sheets of ply, put webing in very much like 41C28 did. The frame is 1" steel tube and the seat back hinges forward, seat base lifts out, pretty easy job really.
This is a 3rd row mini van seat that we modified the frame to fit the car. And then had it reupholstered.
92 s-10 bench with 7' removed from the middle, and welded back together. Fitted cover from 2 mex blankets mounted in my 32 roadster. Tilts forward and slides about 8" back.
Brilliant - thanks! Was messin around with the seat for the '34 pick up just yesterday trying to decide what to do. Had some old sofa springs we were wondering about, but this looks like the best option.
