That's a barber shop clock...so when your looking at it in the mirror behind you it reads correctly.

I picked this up at an antique shop a few years ago...not a clock but a thermometer in the style of a tach or speedo.....made up by some car guy who dated it 1965 on the back.

    Kinda cool

Here is one I made out of a real magnesium Halibrand Champ center section and a 12" moon disc. Striped by my buddie MK John. Don't worry the center section was junk.

Here's mine, straight out of the Elite Club Bar in East Carbon (Dragerton) late 70's... This hung in my dads for about 20 years.

FWIW - that Cleveland that Chris has got does NOT have a BACK cover to "pop" off. They're welded cans and load from the front as the front face is bolted into place. The Hexagon and Octagon Cleveland CLocks DO have a removeable back cover - the Cleveland "bubble" clocks (like Chris') come apart from the front - a little more involved. Also it WILL have a "Synchron" movement - every Cleveland I have ever looked at does - maybe there's exceptions, but I've never heard of that for THOSE particular clocks. There ARE other Neon Clocks made in Cleveland - they were made by a DIFFERENT company some with VERY similar names -but different - maybe those clocks were using the other movements. BTW it's NOT cheap to get all the pieces parts to put that clock back together - by they are not cheap to buy working either.

Actually, HemiRambler, the bubble clocks are not as much of a PIA to work on as you've made it sound. (Unless of course, it is a double sided bubble.) Also - "cheap" is relative. All the parts are readily available from Wayne's Neon Clocks. Think I paid $125 for the last bubble face to restore that Messerschmitt dealer clock from him, as pictured earlier in this thread (which was double sided, btw).

I hate to ask but what's a Clevland worth. I found a Vedoll? oil advertising clock at an antique store today, the face is peeling and the ad glass above is missing, the housing is intact. I didn't test it but the dealer said the clock worked but the neon didn't. He was asking $100 but told me to make an offer. Should I go back?

Actually I never said PIA I said they were "a little more invlved" - which I still say they are and here's why: those Cleveland bubbles when you pull the front face off the neon transformer is typically bolted to the can - so now the high tension wires are strung between the two halves - normally not a big deal but it IS a PIA when there are old transformers in there (which unless they were replaced are certainly gonna be old - the darned wire insulation gets hard and brittle. Lucky (?) for Chris his clock appears to be missing most all of that so it will be a far cry easier to initially work on his. Don't get me wrong I in no way meant to suggest that it was super difficult to work on these - heck a well trained money could rebuild one of these. I do still think the parts are pricey though - moreso if you're having to piece part is all back together - it tends to nickle and dime you to death. Hey Origional Patina - that clock you were working on sounds really neat - any chance you could post a picture????

WOW!! That's GOT to be the best read I've had all week!!! Well I mean for the parts I was able to stay awake for. But before we gets our panties all in a wad - let's first see what I actually said.....hmnn NOTHING about the construction of ALL Cleveland clocks - nope!! Just a SPECIFIC Reference to how (most likely) Chris's clock was constructed.
If I am wrong - then I would suspect that Chris would be so kind as to let me know - since it was HIS clock we were talking about.

DEAD WRONG? - yes about many things many times- just not this time as I made no blanket reference to the construction of ALL CLeveland clocks - nope - go back and reread - I made a specific reference to a specific clock.

It's the HAMB!!! You're gonna get this -if not from me then from another. We work on CARS - other stuff while very cool - may not be in our area of expertise - but then again I have RARELY found any self proclaimed expert 1/2 as good at anything as they claimed to be.

Have some fun - it's not THAT serious around here.

    YMMV

You sir are DEAD WRONG about the case construction of the clocks, they are, and have been constructed a number of ways, both in production, and on special orders. But I dont care to dice and slice details of this man's clock, or any, my intent was hopefully to steer him clear of the most common pitfall of restoration on these; careless, evident retrofit of a later movement, when not being entirely neccesary to do so. Especially in those made before 1939, the movement can, and does vary, my own examples, and those of customers can prove that. Maybe the attention here will keep some DICK HEAD from trying to rip him off purchasing it, or a bungled repair, I dont know, but I hope. I get paid for my work, and for the skill coming with enough years in the business to know better. I collected and was restoring these clocks 20 years before 'me too' collectors started having to have them, i'll be in it when the rest of such guys are off screwing up some other hobby for someone else. You, or anyone, want to try and drive a stake through my heart based on the minutia of what is believed, instead of what is thouroughly known, be my guest. Words in a blog only compel the reader, nothing is proven by them.

    EXELLENT ADVICE THANK YOU

anybody on here fix em? i used to but the parts are hard to find now. I have a very old GE clock radio tube type that was my grandmothers, i remember that clock from when i was just a kid. worked up until about ten years ago, something went and caused the breaker to blow. I hope it's not the transformer. I sure would like for it to work again. these were such a great reception radio, that when it was on you couldn't get the same station on any other radio in the house, but it sure would pull em in
