My rear view mirror clock on my Sport Coupe. I found it still in the box. It's an after market accessory.

I started collecting Pam clocks when they went for 15-20 bucks. Alas those days are gone.

I have a couple of the "double bubble" clocks. I found 2 of my clocks that had the advertising painted over. We discovered the Kelly tire advertising when we put in a bulb inside to use as a night light. That was the first one. My Dad gave it to me for my garage when I bought my first house.

Thanks for the info! Yes the bubble is flat and in good shape. The is no Cleveland decal, there is no markings, tags or anything inside or outside of the clock. I thought perhaps a decal got painted over or a tag removed whenever someone painted the can green. I will definatly strip it and repaint the original dark red. I would like to keep the Veedol decal but it's barely hanging on, every time I move the clock some more falls off. The face is definately faded (yellowed), it's whiter under the decal.
Questain about the neon. I assume the outer ring was white, would the inner ring be a color?

This hung in my dads garage for as long as I can remember, now it hangs in my garage. Crazy thing about it is I recently took it apart to clean and put a new bulb in it. Inside I found the manufacturing date stamped, month, date, and year (1954) .........my birthday!

FWIW here's a shot of the decals - most "outdoors" clock had the outter decal fall off, but ocassionally they're intact. The outside decal is typically at the top of the clock behind the handle- sorry the pic isn't better, but that clock is mounted near my ceiling - that was the best I could do.

The face decal is typically mounted lower center, but on some ad clocks I've seen they stuck it much lower. Those are normally intact - at least to a degree. There were a couple different versions of those, but as far as I know they stuck to the one version for the bubble clocks, but wouldn't swear to it lest I annoy the clock gods. All of these are still available - so you could put 'em back on if so inclined.

I'm not positive, but I don't think they repop that flat bubble - but it's been years since I looked so maybe now they do - I dunno.

On your clock the outter ring may have been white (I say this since yours is an ad banner clock) but in reality it could have been any color. Depending on the ad banner they used the outter ring of the neon to back light the ad banner. You can see on teh frosted bubble they purposefully left a strip of clear to let the light shine through. I assume that for there "generic" clocks where an ad banner could have been added as an option - I say this based on what I've seen over the years. On the "high end" ad banner clocks - (the ones done in higher volumes - like for the various POP CLocks etc. They would add a third piece of neon that was mounted inside the ad banner itself. This is obvious when looking at a clock becauce you can see the high tension leads going from the clock can to the ad banner. So the ad banners are out there in at least two varieties. But from what I've seen they liked to contrast the colors - red/green - etc etc.

FWIW - the earlier AZTEC had ad banners as well - these were basically just FLAT pieces of metal with an additional short "U" track on there as well. The letters (which were wooden - I believe) snapped onto metla prongs. The prongs were mounted to a strip of metal that slid into that "U" track. Pretty cool I always thought.

The professional neon guys have a gizmo that will LIGHT UP a BROKEN piece of neon - they use it to figure out what COLOR the tubes origionally were. So IF you have any of the broken pieces - you might want to hang onto them.

If you can tell I am a BIG FAN of these clocks. I can't hang with the big boys as the prices of these have gone crazy in the last few years, but we used to get them rather cheap from time to time at a swap meet or even buying them right off the building. I've seen these clocks everywhere I have ever traveled - even in Austrailia.

  11. Here are a few clocks in my garage. The EXIDE batteries clock was given to me many years ago by a local Texaco distributor. The Gulf gas pump clock was custom made by a buddy and given to me as a birthday present several years ago. The other clocks are relatively new.

OK I'm jazzed, had to post this. Stole a transformer out of another old neon sign and wired it to the clock I bought last weekend and both tubes lit right up. I would of never dreamed they were pink and green! Looks like this old clock won't need much work at all.

    Enjoy!!!!

Ya know - just like some fellers like origional patina on their cars - it can be the same way for clocks.

They sure do look good all sparkley clean and new, but they also have a certain mystic when they're left in their as found condition. Either way killer clock!!

Vern came out with the Stromberg 97 Coffee Mug some years ago and we sold quite a few of them. I think he came out with a line of kitchen refrigerator magnets right after that. I still have the 34 style V8 one on my reefer. This was probably one of his other uses of Ford designs for decorative purposes, I like it!
Bill at Valley Ford Parts knocked off the 97 mug with a much superior product and had them in stock when you ordered them. We sold hundreds until they were dropped.

Here's the clock that is in my dad's shop. He's had it since he bought his gas station/repair shop in 1968, which was an old dealership. Now it hangs in his new shop.

I just got this one about an hour ago. Was still running and keeping time until we took it down today. The guy claims that the light works too but I don't know about that. The price was right so no questions were asked.

From HemiRambler's posts I have determined that it is a Cleveland clock, Aztec model. This one has little wooden letters on the top that spell out the name of the tavern. I really like it, when I first saw it the guy said he'd never sell it, but now he's moving out of his shop so he gave me a great deal.

Can anyone tell me approximately when this thing may have been built?

Squablow - NICE score!!! The Aztec's are generally 1940's. Having the ad banner is somewhat rare, but having the wooden letters is even more rare since they normally were outside and the wood simply didn't hold up. Way cool!!!!
