  1. Im picking up a 40 ford truck cab and have decided to build a bobber out of it. I was hoping some of you could show me what you have done or have seen in the lines of these custom trucks. So yeah, lets see what you have. Show it off!

the only one you need to see...

  4. I didn't know that was the new term for these trucks. My main issues is that some of these trucks would look even better if the guys would take the time to make some fenders that fit the styling. after a while these trucks will be a dime a dozen, the term bobbed truck will be the new ratrod, which will be on the cover of rod and custom next month.

After Rudy's truck blew me away, there were about 3 more that looked great and about 30 that looked like junk. It was a great idea, but I think Rudy would be laughing at them now. Personally ,I'm over them.

  6. I 100% agree. However, the main reason i am even considering this is because its cheap to build. I cant find a A body that is anywhere near decent for a decent price. However i can get a 40 truck cab for 200$ and get the metal for the frame for 100$. I do think that these will be the next hotrods on the cover of a magazie. And i am willing to bet that there will be a huge "Rat Rod" title over them. Someone came up with a cool idea to make one, peole saw it and thought it was cool and made more. That guy so be stoked. People want to be like him. There is no way anymore in this profession/hobbie/way of life to be original anymore, and im one of those guys that saw one of these trucks and said "Fuck thats cool, I want one"

P.S. And im in no way upset at your comment, so if come off that way im not at all. I do agree with what your saying.

This is my opinion... and in no way do I think it is all that important... everyone has one, right?

Anyway, I like Rudy's truck alright but feel that even it has bad proportions. I just don't like the big heavy body hanging out there in space... And with little to no rake and such a crazy low ride height, I start to wonder about purpose... To me, hot rods should always have a purpose built feel...

I guess if we are talking about customs... wait, I'm putting labels on things. I'll stop there.

I would much rather see a '40 Ford truck project with a tight budget...

  9. I want a '35-'37 cab just so I can chop the living hell out of it & sit it in the corner of the garage & look at it.

Seriously, I don't wanna to build one. I just wanna chop one & sit back & look at it. Maybe crawl in every now & then & make car noises from the driver's seat.

  15. No steering wheel. Just the chopped cab & a bucket to sit on. If I start adding parts I'll end up building one of the damn things.

this truck thing is like the nazis the only good it serves is a evil example of what not to do therefore it stays....I also want to make sure that everyone knows that I hate it.

  18. WTF?

  19. Ryan may have just explained why I don't want the whole truck - but was too dumb to figure it out myself.

So...this is a style called "bobber"...terms, styles and classification...all to be discussed, disected and depicted in 1000's of different ways, just to be critisized...great, here we go again

  21. i actually dig this style alot but never knew it had developed its own name... I do agree that the proportions can easily get out of wack especially the later into the 40's you get. But i have seen some narrowed and chopped F1 and 50 chev cabs that look pretty cool too.. With the price of vintage tin going up these old truck bodies are about all you can find in the low hundred dollar range.

The two trucks above rule (of course i'm not talking about the craigs list item)..

I picked up a 33 dodge truck cab the other day that i plan on doing something similar with it.

as far as labels and purpose go.. F it, it's a hotrod :) .. let's not take ourselves too seriously... there is a place for period correct traditional cars as well as the some of the more recent build styles which play with the formula while still giving a knod to the old traditions... That's what hotrodding is all about..

I'm a little confused as to what we are saying a "Bobber Truck" is? Can someone please help me out...i guess i'm a little on the slow side. I don't get it.

& are we talking about '35 and later style Ford P/Us and '39 and Later Chevy's?

Cause they're are a lot of nice '32-'34 Fords, '30-'31 A Fords, and '32-'38 Chevy's that are Fenderless hotrods:

No such thing as a bobber truck, kitbike, showroom model, etc etc etc....give me a break. Do we have to continually dilute shit until it's totally meaningless????

    Here's a bobber......for the totally uninformed.

Awww, Jeeze...let them call them things Bobbers - otherwise they'll call them Gassers... :D

There's got to be a catchy name for everything, and it doesn't matter if it's a bastardization, as long as it's "Kool".....

Just a question - anybody got the "Hot Rod Definition" of the term???? I have yet to buy the book

  30. I have to say I like them when they are done like the "Rudy" truck, but I also think that it doesn't take much to make them look ugly as shit. There are some that I think are cool as hell and more that look like unbalanced, cobbed together pieces of shit. And the "bobber" name just isn't right.
