Every time I see one of these I want to section it 4-6 inches.

Does anyone have an image of a sectioned example? I think that would go a long way to correct the flow.

Also, when I see a 40's truck with a T shell, I want to kick it in the teeth. They need curves to match the roofline.

I also say they need fenders of some type.

That's my opinion, but WTF do I know.

Ryan said it right....and to the point.

Fact of the matter is....The whole fenderless truck thing has gone way overboard.

And any fenderless truck 1935 on up just doesn't look 100% to me either.

I think this has been the easy way out for many to get in the Hot Rod game.

    Just my opinion.

They are hanging the "bobber" tag on them because typically the bed will be shortened?...Man, I just want to take the neet lookin pieces off my 59 White Super Mustang and put them on a half-ton truck chassis and build myself a Pickup with stacks..put on my sunglasses and let people stare.....

Oh man, I'm bummed now. This is pretty much what I'm building with a longer bed and maybe a trailer hitch so I can tow with it. Guess I need to go find some geezers fully restored model A to hack up.

What I hate on these trucks is green wheels. Seems like too many people had red ones so they all went and painted em apple green.

I love how ALL of them are chopped too much.. Drivability and forward vision be damned I guess, all in the name of looks.

I'd think that a slender, long swoopy fender would help out with the proportions a bit. At least I'd think it would help out alot with bringing the front and rear together

Thanks for the great pics and inspiration.

From 8 to 80 there is room for everyone.

As for the naysayers, they forgot what the car hobby is all about....

Took about 30 seconds, but is what I'm going for.

My '37 Cab was free, but severely rotted. I "sectioned" it off below the lower door hinge because thats where the rot stopped, and I would have to replace the floor anyway. Currently looking at an cheap '53 Ford Truck rolling chassis and a Chevy Six cylinder to put together. I planned from the start to have a high boy-ish stance to the thing, the rear axle set pretty far forward, and a long bed.

Sure...I've got other, more productive things to do. But with the price of the parts I'm trying to get to do it with, I'll pretty much have nothing in it.

I get most of the view points here, but disagree with many. I'm building a fenderless truck, but never thought to call it a Bobber. Never really considered a tag for it.
I get Ryan's "purpose" comment. Many of these only had one purpose, Looking sinister, evil, or what ever you want to call it. I had a purpose in mind for mine all along. I wanted a VERY capable daily driver that will perform at the strip or on the salt (if I ever get the chance). I didn't set out to build a record breaker. To do that, you have to adhere to a specific discipline, drag, salt, dirt, whatever.
I also disagree with someone saying that this is the easy way out and a shortcut into rodding. I couold have put together a cookie cutter high boy roadster much faster, with less effort. But I'm not a cookie cutter. I may fail in the end with the overall lines and proportion, but I will learn along the way. I will challenge my personal skills, and I will have fun. I guess that's the purpose of my "Bobber" truck. I don't like everything I see in rodding, but I don't feel compelled to trash those things. I would rather put that effort into study of other designs that can help me along the way. It would be a boring world if we all had the same opinion.

Why have i never seen this "Rudy truck" i mean, i probly have, but i dont know which one it is, its never been varified to me.

  20. First saw a boober in 1952, on Goddard rd. in Detroit. Out behind a barber shop and handbuilt. I was hitchhiking and had to go take a look.
Purpose was to have an all year driver. Cab kept out the cold and rain and it had a heater for the Detroit winters. Made from pieces of old cars and just built for the fun of it.
Every vehicle, named or not, has a purpose. It is built for the fun of building it.

Starting with a Bobcat, it is a cat without a tail, Bobber was a very old trucker term, derived from" bobcatting", which is a semi coming back from a run without a trailer. A semi truck without a trailer was a bobber, or a bobcat.
Now I will wait while the posers tell me it didn't happen that way.

I think maybe these are an easy way to get into the hot rod game, and I don't see a problem with that. I started out to do one with a 1950 F-1, but the guys that helped me out talked me into doing fenders, and I am glad. Still I certainly wasn't paying for and cutting up a valuable body, I bought 2 trucks for about $200 each, very cheap way to get started.

What the hell is a "Bobber Truck"? Please say this a British, Australian, New Zealander, South African, Canadian term which Americans are not going to pick up!!

Never did hear of them being called a bobber truck either.

I just don't really like the whole bottomed out, road-kill grinding, chopped to death look. Its been played out. Its a bit more work to get them like that, but some vehicles need a bit of a "stance".
