I'm wanting to fill the '31 roof, but since I'm putting the vinyl back on I don't want ribs....was wondering if anyone knew of any aftermarket smooth filler pieces.

  9. Howell's Sheetmetal Co. in Nederland, Tx. has them smooth or ribbed. Latest catalog say's $150.00 plus shipping. www.fordor.com

I'm gonna try a conversion van top so I can get the tv and dvd player in the roof with lights that look like a starry night and storage compartments.

Howells quoted me $400 just to ship. Looking for an alternative in the land of rust.

Yep, they quoted me $240 to southern Illinois. Seems high, but might be ways around that.

Has anybody on here ever used a top from Howells?
    How do they look?
    How do they fit?
    How hard to install?

One of my customers bought one from them. It was just a flat sheet that was bent to fit the car front to back, but had no compound curve to it. It was flat. No workee!

How willing is the salvage yard to let you come in and cut away? How much do they get for a top?

Are you saying that it didn't work at all, or was more work than you thought. Just curious.....

Mine has a roof from a 1980 oldsmobile wagon. It worked out really nice.

It wouldnt work. The roof is a compound curve, and with no shape, it is flat in the middle. It was just a flat sheet that had the shape front to back only. The only way to make it work is by wheeling it. Maybe they put shape in them now, I just know what that one was.

I used a early 60's Dodge wagon top on my tudor. It's got 5 or 6 ribs but not like any other's I've seen. The ribs run all together right down the center of the top,not spread out acoss the top.Sorry don't have any pictures and I sold the car several year's ago.

Glad Howells didn't answer my email with questions about the inserts they make.
Someone on ebay wells one for $1800.00 OUCH.
I guess I know now why Howells is so much cheaper.
    Salvage yard here I come!!

Nice looking car. Glad to see I'm not the only one keeping their fenders on.
