wow 270, that looks intense! All I did was bore it over 0.030" with a mid range cam from Patricks. Harden valve seats. It will go in a 47 Chevy Aerosedan

Block is 1962 casting. Head is a 848, don't remember what year.

Love your Nicson intake and cover! Don't see these often.

    40s Chevs with 261 rule ! :D

Very nice. Mine is a 56 and I learned I didn't require an oil filter. I still plan to put one on. Yes, not too often.

    Definetly use an oil filter.
Today's Napa Gold (same as Wix) full-flow filters have a lower micron spec than the vintage byp*** filters...haha
My full-flow filter has 19 microns and my vintage toilet-paper Frantz byp*** filter has only 1/10 of a micron.

That's important for a daily driver and it extends oil change interval and keeps it looking like honey even after 7000 miles, if the air cleaners are good as well.
I use K&N oil gauze air filters that can be cleaned and reused virtually forever.

Taking waaaaay too long with mine. I have a choice of a few different intake/exhaust combinations...
Corvette exhaust with 4 bbl Clifford intake and a 390 cfm Holley
Corvette exhaust and Corvette triple side draft (don't have the carbs yet)
Fenton exhaust and 2X2 Edelbrock with Holley-Webers, seen here on my '56 235 with over 100,000 miles! Daily driver only vehicle, '49 Chevy 1/2 ton.

BTW all of your engines are superb! My block is a '62 60 over, Clifford cam, heavily ported '54 head.

I'm getting ready to build a 261 for the wagon in my avatar. The block is a 55 casting and from what I have read so far it can be converted from a partial oiler to a full flow. Any one done this on a pre 58 block?

Is there an advantage to converting to full flow?

Since I'm not planning on a daily driver, full flow oil doesn't apply then. I'll keep it stock with byp*** filter

I have the stock byp*** filter on my 235 in my truck, that I have on the road since 1995 and over 100K miles.
The engine was already 20 years old when I got it then and was in worse shape than now after replacing the head and valves and lifters.

The stock byp*** filters have about 30 microns even with the Napa gold version today.
A Frantz byp*** filter would be better.

Another solution is no filter but keep changing the oil more often.
Personally I think even the stock byp*** filter is better than none.
You can still change the oil more often, if you like.

How do you have both filters plumbed? Which is first?

    Both in parallel.
Hose and fitting orifice size and byp*** filter resistance regulates the flow.
Custom hydraulic hoses from my local Napa store.

Simple does it indeed! Nice work!

Custom home-made mount, will go with your excellent parallel filtration Road Runner, thank you!

Have to check the badge on the generator, but it's the longer one with a bit more Amps - not that I need it. :)

I never connected pressure gauges to figure what the oil flow is through the Frantz byp*** in this setup, but because it goes right back into the engine pressure after the full flow filter, rather than the pan without pressure, as designed, it is probably just a few pounds. And most importantly doesn't drop engine oil pressure.

So I don't change the toilet paper as often as recommended and I rather use it as an added 'fine cleaner' and water soaker that slowly cleans and wicks away in the background.
Backyard engineering at its finest. :p

I'm definitely learning a lot here. I'm not certain where my engine would hook up the byp*** filter or if I even have full flow. I'll post a better image soon and perhaps you all can school me where the fittings would go.
