here's the '55 chebbie i'm buildin' now. can you find abetter use for a stock(or any other) harley air cleaner cover?
I used an old cake cover, striped it, and put an aftermarket element under it. It's on a flathead in my 53 Merc. Cheap and easy.
Nice piece! I've got three of those on my coupe. Do you know anything about them? They were made in the 50s by a place called Hi Power Speed, I believe, out of New York. They are pretty rare now and a set of three sold recently on EBAY for over $2000.00, I used regular 4" paper air cleaners after opening up the area where the bolts have to go through with a wood awl. but I think they originally just had a piece of aluminum screen that was wrapped around itself a couple of times and then stapled along the edge to hold it together. I have a friend that knows more about them than I do if you need any more info.
Buzzard, that's the shit right there, That is my favorite air cleaner set-up. I've got a set at the chromers right now for a future project, possibly going on my wagon , but I need to bump the H.P. a little to handle the 2 fours. Nice job . Gary
I don't know much about the air cleaner. It has no marking at all on it. I got it from my brother-in-law who ran it on a Caddy in the late '50's. Yup, the original filter elements were a couple of wraps of screen stapled. I'v got them but paper seams a better way to go. K&N didn't appear to have anything the right size. Earlier it was suggested to try NAPA Wix listings and that's what I'll do.
Not running it (I'm using Hilborn 4-port injection), but I own a rare Holman-Moody scoop. Just so happens to be up on eBay for bids this week. Here's a couple pics.
Here´s my old Cal Custom aircleaner top. I haven´t even cleaned or polished it yet..... Now I know what I could do this afternoon...hahaha
here is one of the never seen air cleaners. It is part of an old fridge, the firewall is also old fridge parts. The firewall is the outerskin off an old fridge turned around! Cool (no pun intended).
Ha, Baumi can manage to find a Cal Custom air cleaner over in germany, but I cant find a decently priced one over here. Does anyone have the moon one? Id like to see what that looks like. Some of those wheel covers would look real neat though...
I have two for sale over there and neither are pictured here plus i make the fiberglass scoops mentioned earlier in this post. if i get time i will bring the pics over here . . . I have several more sscoops fiberglass of different sizes and shapes, and several different velocity stacks when you get ready let me know http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1418587#post1418587 and you can do a search for my fiberglass ones
I´ve got it at VLV this year . There was a guy selling grills and bumpers and almost hidden behind a model A grillshell he had that aircleaner... he asked 50 and was ok with 40$. So it was mine. Polished it today and it looks great!
The square one was not enough. So I found a K&N one by dimensions and made a bottom and sprayed it with bedliner, hammered a top, form a gasket to insure bottom seal and one side sticky weatherstrip to seal top. Works good. http://www.directimagehost.com/pf.php?fid=8394
Here's a little project I just finished. I used a massaged trombon bell for the velosity stack and made my own lid for it.
I had a really hard time picking a air cleaner for my T. It is the main focal point of the moter in a rod and can make it or break it. Here is mine nothing special I just put this one on I got from Auto Zone for now mainly because its simple, and its a hell of alot better than a mail box
If someone were to discribe that to me without a pic I would say rat rod. But that car pulls it off, I like it
