The past year has been hard, with all the people out of jobs, hours cut or even wage cuts. All of my cars had to have some cut backs and I made more parts to save some money. Let's see those budget builds and see how u saved money.
I'm temporarily out of work now too. The good thing is, now I have time to put on all the stuff I've bought over the years and squirelled away in the corner.
Started with this. Bought it for $2000 because the guy threw in $1200 worth of NOS and replacement sheetmetal. Then I bought another one to strip parts off of and sell what I didnt need for money. The parts car I paid $500 for and got the 348 motor and misc other stuff for me and sold the parts/body for $1200. Now I am doing all the work myself and making ends meet by fixing lawnmowers on the side to pay for paint supplies. Now this is where I am at. Still got a long ways to go but this is a serious budget build. So far I am only in it for about $2000 with the money I made from the parts car buying anything that was missing sheetmetal wise.
i have about 1500 in my 51 plymouth i will post up some pictures when i get a chance another 1000 and i should be able to drive it around town.......sure saves money when you dont pay someone to do the work
$4800 total built it in 98-99 for $4000 have put $800 in it since then. But i got alot of parts by bartering & its all used stuff. These are pics with a few changes over the last few years JimV
This might be slightly OT. I race an old Norton at El Mirage and Bonneville. I got an urge to build a sidecar but I didn't have much in the line of spare cash (so whats new?). This is my sidecar. It was scratch built. I made most of the parts and have a total of about $1600 in it. The kicker is it ran a new 500cc sidecar record at El Mirage in Sept at 122.240 mph. Suddenly the money and time involved makes perfect sense! [/IMG] [/IMG] Meant to add. This is really what makes it all worthwhile. In the lights at 122+ [/IMG]
Been on here before but this was built out of leftovers, trades and freebies, thanks to all who donated. But it was also a way to relieve stress from the very same unemployment that has stricken so many people including me a year ago. I still use it to relieve stress now that I'm working again. Funny how a beat old Hot Rod has that affect. Miles and smiles versus cost it will be hard to ever beat this one for sure. Tim
Here's my Budget Build.I have a 52 Ford truck that I got Free from a friends for a powdercoat job I did. The frame is from a Chevy Luv and came with the rims and tires shown. This I was able to get for a 25.5 Roll Cage I installed. ( He paid for all the material and I did the work ) The chevy 4.3 He also rebuilt for the work. The Chevy Truck with the 4.3 I purchased for $50.00.A tree fell on the truck and the Owner of the Apartments wanted it out of the parking lot.( the original owner of the truck left ).I stripped all I needed for the build then loaded up the truck, also the leftover scrap from the 52 and all scrap metal lying around the shop and sold it. Made the $50 back plus $25 extra. $5 for gas and $20 for Beer! I hope to have it done for another $800-$1000 and be My daily driver...Pat
Also unemployed, lucky for me I love walking all the U-Pull It yards at least once a month and have lots of friends so I was doing real good on the build until I got scammed by a couple sucker bids Exhaust hand shake quote around $250 ended up $450 and still had an exhaust leak I fixed , then my Radiator repaired twice another $400 but I still am doing pretty good thanks to my buddy Lonnie's wife giving me his 1970 F250 to use on my Edsel, so a free rebuilt (and beefed up) FE 390, and C-6 trans. Traded parts for the tires and wheels , 1970 Linc Mark lll leather seats $65, glass by NoName here on the HAMB, and lots of U-PULL IT parts I'm driving her for around $3000. Thank you to everyone that has helped edsel
So far I'm in about $1500. 99.9% of the mechanical work thus far has been my boyfriend's handy work, however. Happy to say I've done a thing or two myself though. =) 99.9% of the cosmetic work thus far has been my handy work though (with the exclusion of welding in floors, but I did cut them out). But she's my baby =)
Got about 4800$ in the roadster,4000 miles this summer. Over three years itwas mostly 500$ chunks. http://
From this.......... to this. 4.5 months and $3,200, $700 of which was the back tires and wheels. Lots of pictures in my profile album. Driven DAILY by my wife.
Bought it here: Last looked like this: I've built it on a budget, but I have entirely too much in it IMO. That's not stopping me I guess, as I just gutted it and I'm getting ready for another makeover since I have owned it over a year.
If I had to guess I'm into my 53' Customline for maybe $300...... Tradedmy 80' Ford Courier which I paid $150, $40.00 drop blocks, $19.99 Chrome tri star headlight covers (pic 2), $Freebie$ Weber 32/36 Carb, $Freebie$ Roller cam and rockers, $20-ish full tune up. For that above I got this gem...............
Picked it up for$500.00..total build time about 6 weeks..and about 4k invested...looks like shit,but runs great...vicks
About $2200.00 in the falcon. Hope to have around $4 or $5000.00 in the 33 pickup when done. I'm a tight ass, and i do all my own work, or there is no way i could do these cars for that kinda $$$$$$
