theres roughly 3,000 in this. bought a car for 1,200, traded it for this one, my dad rebuilt the motor, suspension, brakes, then dropped in a 2004r trans, put a cam in the 350, and new headers and exhaust. now that the mechanicals are how my dad and i want it, we can start on bodywork. it will be painted at home, and all the rot repair and bodywork will be done at home as well, so it shouldnt be all that expensive. bought this one for 300, so far ive only spent 20 bucks, for the 54 chevy hubcaps. it needs brakes, so it will get a dual master cylinder, all new brake lines and hoses, rebuilt brakes, so that will probably put me at around 600, maybe more, the transmission needs work, but the engine runs MINT, so i'll just be cleaning up the engine, and putting new paint on it, and under the hood will be restored first before anything else gets touched, that will put me at around 900 with the trans parts i need, and engine paint. after its in driving condition, i will start custom work to the body. it wont cost anything because ive got a welder and will be doing bodywork at home. i dont plan on painting it all up nice just yet, it'll be white and semi gloss black, so the paint will be maybe a couple hundred, and its getting shot at home, so i should be into it for a bit under 1,500 and i'll have a running/driving 55 buick in fairly good shape!
im doing my car myself, either barter, trade or by my parts. all welding, fab'n, etc is done my me. ive spent 70 in all metal (rails, plate for boxin and back brace, frame bracing).. have had idea help but im doing all the work.. new frame, bodywork ,etc. shorten and back brace the rear myself. etc... check my album for better pix of my build. so far in parts and material i have about 600 into it.
Fiberglass Tilt. I found the tilt on a front yard about 30 miles from my house. The guy wanted to cut the teardrop off to put on a cherry ;62 Galaxie. He sold it to me for $50. It needs some work. It is 60's vintage. Rich Venza says he thinks it is one he molded back in the day. Here is a link to my project You will be surprised. http://www.henryjcars.com/cherry/cherry.html
This is mine, a '48 Stylemaster. I V8'd an S-10, had $1000.oo in it. I traded it for the '48 Style's disassembled body. Did a restoration on an old truck and got a partial payment, a '76 Malibu wagon with a crate 350. I freshed it up and robbed several parts off the malibu, wheels, tilt, automatic. It has a Camaro sub/nova rear, smoothed firewall, trim holes, frenched headlights, grille, bobbed fenders 1 foot, sectioned the hood 5 inches.Sand blasted Old School in the back glass.Made the air cleaner from 3 others. Ebay was almost the exclusive parts source of the other parts. I'm around 3 thousand into this. This is the oldest car I've built so far.
Damn you guys are freakin awesome, I'm working on a budget too. I cant afford to much but I keep working everything on my own. I will post some pic's up here once i get my chop done in about two weeks
OK.. I bought it in May this spring.... added built a motor and tranny, new wiring harness..... TLC and viola I still need new tires and rims....... next year??
here is a little car i have thrown together for cheap . the only thing i have bought new for it was the tires . i have low$ in it . i made all the brackets and just about everything in it. i have way more time than money . it is kinda neat to see how much you can make for a car before you have to buy something.
down to only my wifes salary now, i'm hoping to have this running sometime next year...if under 5000 including truck and all engine, trans, rear, exhaust ,wheels and tires etc.... that is including the 1600 US to have the truck shipped up to Canada
Hi Mb.. Nice pickup.. The Bug is neat.. dang this looks almost like a June Bug.. I think theres alot on this forum that are resourseful , they sure give a new meaning of how too make it , when you cannot buy it.. its pretty cool here..

Found our friend in the back of a Mom & Pop Used Car lot. He was parked next to a Kaiser and a Nash (first Picture). Went to a show and saw 3 more so I have changed things up a bit since then.
Man! These look great! I've been out of the "old car" hobby for a few years (kids, job, other hobbies, etc). I'm just getting started again on my cars. I've got a 32 Chevy, two-door sedan and a 27 T roadster pickup that I'm working on. Probably start installing the fuel injected 350 into the 32. I just bought an entire 89 Chevy custom van for the engine/trans for $100 and drove it home! I figure I'll use the entire engine harness/computer and the steering column out of it for the 32. I'll try and attach pix.
I am budgeting $5k for my 55' Chevy. We will see how I do. That is with the big block, four speed, and posi 12 bolt rear in it, and well as all of the rust taken care of. It should be a decent runner.
Got about $800 in it all right now, doin all the work myself. Body, frame, front suspension, rear end, motor (283), trans (T56), and title. Heres my build: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=384431
sorry to jump in on the thread before . i did not know it was mostly canadain. drink a molson for me A. jusk kidding. i just met a bunch of canadain rodders at or local show the pumpkin run this weekend. they picked my other budget build ( 32 hupmobile 3 window coupe )for there show pick.
Great thread. That Norton is why LSR is so neat to see. The rich guys sometimes are impressive, but stuff like that is the backbone of hotrodding, at least to me. Have so much more respect for projects with actual owner involvement.
