you may have already seen it. but ive had my 57 chevy since i was 12 (bought it as a non rolling shell for 500 bucks) and im 19 now. worked for my money, bought everything and did everything myself even exhaust. ( i did have my dads friend help replace a quarter and 2 rockers when i was younger). ive sunken some cash into it but not as anywhere as much as youd think. its taken time but i finally got my 400 horse tunnel rammed 350 with a muncie 4 speed, 9 inch ford and tilt nose just like i wanted.
I sent my B crank away for fixen, and had no ride but lots of spare parts that were collecting rust. So I now have wheels again. 2001 AMC 4 banger/ 5 sp. 65 Chevy Van axles front and back. And a lot of massagin. Runs very strong, and very happy. Less then a $1000.00 spent and I did all of the work, but the drive shaft. Iceman
Thanks I sure hope so. 3" chop, 4" channel, running 283 with tri power, 4 link in the rear with 9 inch and 4.56 gears hopefully. Guess we'll see how it turns out when finished...
This '54 Austin Somerset my dads current project we bought it for $800 with a lot of spares (mostly mechanical but some extra grilles too) the interior was taken out as cats had lived on the back seat for a while and the car has been a "project" since the mid 80's, we are going to restore it without changing anything as it is so rare these days, the biggest expenses will be paint and tires, but we are trying to keep it under $2500 (hah!)
That is not a Ford T windshield frame or posts. Ford open cars used round tubing frames from 1909-31. It is probably a mid-20s Buick or whatever the cowl you are using is since it fits so well though it couls use a filler panel. Nice car.
Here is my 30 chevy sedan that I built on a strict budget, of "if it could be made I made it". The only new bought parts on the car are a rebuilt kit for the motor, four gauges, the radiator, brake components and coil overs for the rear suspension. Everything else was scavenged or made in the garage, right down to the steering column, front suspension, and exhaust.
I have to say it again, I've seen so many inspirational builds that I want to start searching for a body. That's a great Chevy! I'm sure my wife is going to want to ban me from this forum. Mike
OK - here's my budget build - '47 Chev Business Coupe. - Not finished yet, but each winter I get closer - winters are long here in Sakatoon. All the mechanical is done - Ventura clip and rear, Olds engine. - I figure I've got about $2000 to $3000 in it including the coupe itself, the donor car, wheels, tires, etc.. All the work is mine. Cheers, Art R.
DING DING DING!!! I think you should win an award for one of the baddest Chevys out there. The stance looks great. Normally when people pick an oddball body they go all rat roddy with it. You car is very tasteful. Love it!!!!
This thing is awesome!!! Man if you add the wheel and tire combo that thing is going to look straight out of the '64 nationals!!! The stance screams drag car. There are some really great shot in this months Hot Rod Deluxe and I think what they were getting at is that there are a lot of modern interpretations of Hot Rod right now but there is also so much that is being missed. Every one wants a down lown looking hot rod but what about the ones that sat up a bit higher and ran full fenders because that's what was required to run in a class. Very cool!! I say get some reverse Olds rims for out back done in back with 8.20 slicks and some american fives up front with like 5.60's. That thing would look like time warp!!!! What engine are you running? I would be saving you pennies for a built 283 or a 401 nailhead done with all the right goodies.
You guys are killing me. I thought I was low budget aiming to stay under $10k. I'm stretching that with a few upgrades in the powertrain, that led to upgrades on the brakes, that led to upgrades on the suspension, blah, blah, blah. I might get out for about $12k for what I have planned, finished out the way I want. That does include mostly new brake and suspension parts, new trans, newly assembled engine, etc. Don't even think rat. Think purpose built salt or drag from the early 60's. Paint, sterile interior, mechanicals to go fast, not look pretty.
Here is one more car im building. The car is a 32 bantam 60's style dragster. When the car is all said and done there will be about $5000 in her.
Damn Ben,You are not messing around. I didnt realize that you already had the frame together. Wish I had as much motivation as you do.
Ha thanks i'm kind of at a stand still right now though need to get a few more parts together and put a frame under a street bike I wrecked a while back...
THANK YOU! I plan on finishing it off with a little darker grey paint and some red with silverleaf pin striping. I will have to wait until next spring or summer to paint it, because the garage is a little too cold now. The interior is aluminum panels and overall the car is supposed to look like a 50's-60's hot rod/race car.
Im somewhere between $2500 and $3000 with all new brakes, lines, wheel cyl.,dual res.master cyl.setup and good running 350/350, fluids alone were around 100 bucks. Its kind of in the roughed in stage rite now. Its running and driving but I still have a way to go as you can see
$5000.00 in this one including all new brake components, new clutch components, and fuel system. That also includes T, T &L. The most expensive thing was the tires.
