Made mine out of an old hubcap and the base is from a ford diesel pick up. I cut the snorkel off and put to windows in the back. I was trying to get the oil bath look.[IMG]

  5. Ok mine is a little dirty and its not a cake cover.

This is actually the air cleaner cover from a Denver's Screw compressor. For some reason they decided to replace the stainless one with a painted cover.

I have seen fellas do them with pots and bowls from Wally World before and they look about the same. Damn the luck.

Original bat wings are a little pricey at around the $3000.00 range, so I thought I would build my own version.

Factory made by Chrysler to fit the hemi powered Facel Vega in '57.
I sold it to a guy in Sweden who was restoring one.

I don't think I have a picture, but back in HS, we would take two Pie Tins, eat the pies, cut the bottom for the air horn and just center punch a hole for the wing nut. A regular store bought pie will use a Buick 231 V-6 stock air cleaner element. The best ones were made with an embossed Poppin Fresh Pies brand tin....Still have one or two of them in reserve if I ever build something.

Hey Alphabet, hunt down some kitchen storage containers.

  20. I loved the big gumball oil bath that came stock on my car and hated to see it go when I dropped in the SBF, so I gutted it and made it work with my 4 barrel carb.

I went to the parts store and found a filter that fit with adequate clearance and cut down a larger base to fit. Sorry I dont have any pics of the base.

Yes they do! I used a small edelbrock aircleaner top and base. I think a 10" one if i remember correctly.... I used an air filter that fits a '79 Chevy C-10. The whole thing fits inside with about a 1/2" of clearance all the way around. All I did was use a long stud and bolted the actual filter assembly down to the carb, i put a spacer on top of that, then put my cake-cover on top of that! I like it myself. Nobody else seems to know what it is!

...I call them 'half beehives' to knowledgable car guys. The response is always "I never knew they made them".....then I say, "They didn't....."
In actual fact they are are pair of cast aluminum candle holders that I found at the local Goodwill Store. Total cost $2.99 (pair) and bought without any purpose or reason two years ago before I had the Flattie. Fit perfectly and I only had to drill a hole for the securement bolts.....

Some aluminum sheet, some MDF and a couple of hours and I made this for my Hilborn injected 2 liter Ford 4 cyl. Element is a K&N.
