Y'know There is a lot of truth to that statement!
I have another house that I grew up in 3 mi away from where I live now.
That one has a 25' single car unit and a workshop filled to the rim with just
stuff! It has a 2 stall car port in front of it, Trusty Rusty (34 3W) Mr Sinister 2 sitting right out there in the elements. A Bo Jones Modifeid chassis right in front of that. My 55 Bird to the left of that. & numerous other derelics hanging off walls off to the side.
So I say, I'm gonna buy a bigger place with a long drive & a "Must have" 3 car garage. Looked @ about 2K houses for sale in the immediate vicintity,
Looked for 5 mos B4 I settled on the joint that I'm in now. The only reason I bought it was for the garage;). 30' deep & 20' wide-220vt & still not enough room. Now I made a model of what I need to do to expand it even more.
The lot is trianglular so one wall will be straight & the other will be long but on an angle. Then I'll turn the east side wall into a garage door and leave the 18x6' orignal on the south end where it is at. That wil give me 3 garage doors & room for 4 -5 cars in the garage & still have a shop in the rear of the garage in order to make parts.
One couldn't even walk into my backyard right now. What I'd really like to have is a commercial buiding for myself, buy they have gotten real expensive.
    If I took a picture you wouldn't believe it:eek: .

Here's the only pic I have of the one corner of the shop/garage, it's in an old barn from the early 1900's

I'd post a pic of mine but I dunno if there's enough room. I work out of a 10-20 'garage' (really a shed). The biggest I could build w/out pulling a permit (love the City of Flint!). It gets me by and the beater fits just fine.

Man theis thread is bitchin and depressing all at the same time. I Unfortunatly and fortunatly live in Santa Cruz CA. Nice town but just my rent for a 3 bed 2 bath with 20x24 garage is a bit over 2100 a month. Nice house but a crap load of money. I know a lot of people with mortgages half that. So buying land to put a sjop is out of the question.

I do have my dream shop built in my head though And some day I WILL make it a reality. I have been concidering a move to Paso where it is still somewhat affordable.

    Cool garages guys!!!!!!!!

Here's mine - a little bigger than some - a LOT smaller than some others - but either way it beats working in the snow - which I HAVE done and don't miss a bit!!!

FWIW I started with a 22' X 22' garage and then I built this addition on the back - 32' X 32' - I really wish it was bigger, but for living in the suburbs it's A MIRACLE that I ever convinced them to let me build this!

Here is my baby! Spent years in a 12x22 dirt floor delapidated garage. My wife and I built this 20x24early last year, last fall I added a 6x24 lean-to. The lean to is split into 2 rooms, storage and my Man-Room.

This is all I have and I guess I should feel lucky. No electricity, roof leaks, floor's always wet, and I only have 36" to squeeze through. I still manage to fit 4 motorcycles and 3 bicycles in.

i'm realizing that maybe it's better that my gay-rage doesn't look like some of yours.

some are so nice that i would just go out there and sit and soak in the ambience. i wouldn't get anything done...

    no.

WOW you did a really nice job man! Thats not alot of room but its well utilized which is more than half the battle. Mine is a narrow 1 car but 2 deep which helps. I was going to sheetrock and paint myself, gives off a TON of light, but instead I think Id rather just throw a "for sale" sign on the lawn and run.

Here are some pics of where I've been "working on " and keeping the coupe. I use the term 'working on' loosely lately as I haven't really touched it since late fall... Too damned cold. They're pretty old pics but give you the idea of the spaces. The bare chassis pic was taken at my neighbor's garage. It's about 20x30, with a partition for some chickens out back... most likely very deaf chckens after listening to 7 months of grinding and pounding. It was full of bikes and oddball crap, but they were kind enough to lend me the space to get some work done, due to the space shown in the other pic. This is where the coupe spent most of the winters since I've had it; in my folk's barn, which is attached to the house and is old and wooden. NO flames are open in there... meaning shit doesn't get done until it gets nice enough to roll it out into the driveway. My one-car garage at my place houses the Dodge and is not a workable space by any means either. The guys I see here with HUGE spaces, with tons of storage, heated spaces or at least cement floors are fortunate to be able to work and not have to worry about freezing their asses off or burning someone's house down. Someday....

A garage should look like a garage....not like someones living room.
