Lets see your Halibrands guys. There isn`t anything better peeking out the back than a Halibrand IMO Also how many are running locked rear ends or open rears? I got a 310 i am thinkig about using on my project got pics in my albums letr me know what you think and i need to know what type of tubes and bells i could use thanks IK anothe FNG and his ?`s lol
What modifications were required to the crossmember , gas tank , or suspension to make it work in the 36 ? Thanks Dave
Dave, A modified Model A crossmember was installed with a Model A spring. The tank and everything else is stock. The only part that needed to me modified was the floor of the trunk to make room for the crossmember.
This is my early Halibrand in my 29 lakes modified. The casting is one of the early mag jobs and I have converted the axles to full floating using parts from Coleman Bros. Racing. I used Ford 7.5" side gears and remachined the carrier to except them. The axles are 4340 28 spline units from Coleman Brothers Racing also. The hubs are aluminum and use a pair of Timken tapered roller bearings so they are pretty stout. I bought it from Vern Tardel and did a complete rebuild, new bearings and seals etc before I put it on the road. I have about 10,000 miles on it and zero problems. Special thanks to the guys at Hot Rod Works also. Rex
v8 with '37 bells, 9" bearing and brakes. ...not on the road yet. Ch***is is for a full fendered '29 Ford cabriolet.
WOW! Guys alot of really nice rears keep them coming heres what i am starting with need to find the rest.
I have rear-end envy! How much better would this car look with a quick change? I'm gladly accepting donations!
Are there any companies/shops that sell complete units ready to go? I need an open drive one for a project and don't know enough to build one myself.
Our fellow HAMB memebr **** Spadaro sells one ... http://www.****spadaro.com/quickchange.htm#QC_Trumpet_Style
Quickchange Quickchange Rear Ends for Early Fords Just for the nostalgia hot rodder, an affordable Quickchange rear conversion that fits early Ford axle housings. Uses your original parts and retains the differential action. Gives you that old time Hot Rod look. No special parts to purchase. Uses stock 1940-48 Ford rear hubs and brakes. Great for Model A's, Deuce Hiboy's and many other applications. Not intended for racing or high horsepower vehicles. Seems to be some conflicting information about this...
I would venture that 90% of the hot rodders have never seen a street roadster with an open tube rear end going down the street....I know that many run locked axles in conventional rear ends...One of the biggest advantages of an open tube is, taping up the axle with bright colored tape in a spiral configuration like a barber pole....It hypnotizes the people following you when they watch the axle and try to figure out what is going on.....
