I have a 29 Model A roadster and I want to get the hood tops louvered. How many rows look good on a Model A hood? Let's see yours!
After looking I realize I don't have a bunch of '28 '29s in my picture stash, but lots of '30 -'31s. The '28 '29 being narrower, it's a bit tough to get three rows in, but I have had good luck with my 2 1/2" dies. I have to include a picture of one layout that I did for a fellow H.A.M.B.er out of Texas last year. He specified a pattern that made almost zero sense, but actually ended up being pretty cool 'cause it was a break from the normal. I'll add to this when I find some more '28-'29 stuff.
My hood looks like the one in the center on top. It has the 32 style hinge and chrome strip down the middle. D would my hood have room to do that with. I sent you a message this last weekend. I'm not sure how many louvers each row would have but that setup looks great.
Did you not get my P.M. back? I sent it out yesterday morning. If not I'll resend. Yes, the one in the top center is a '28-'29 if I remember correctly, that Rootlieb built with just a touch of stretch for a customer of mine and the '32 hinge. If your has the '32 type hinge I do think there is enough room to do three rows per side as I have just narrowed the bases on my dies a bit. Let me know if it's in your "In" box, If not I'll try to resend.
I got your message. Thanks for getting back so quickly. I'll talk to Mitch this week and have him come down and check it out. Do you have an address of your shop? Mike
Give me a call and I'll give it to you off board. Not that it's a secret or anything, I just try real hard not to go TOO commercial on the board. Anybody is welcome to call any time they are in Phoenix, too. 602 881 0175
I'm the guy from Texas whose request for louvers in a `28 - `29 hood made "...zero sense.." according to Need Louvers? But he did it anyway and I liked how it turned out ... not to mention that it would keep my 2-deuce setup "in the dry," and be compatible with the louver design on the deck lid.
Hey Garry! Hope you didn't take any offense at the "Zero sense" comment, it was said in fun. I have to admit that while doing your hood, my inner tortured artist was screaming a bit until I saw the end result! It's actually one of my favorites to show people under the category of "the customer is always right", 'cause he really was! I saw the pictures of the completed car the other day, but no hood yet...
