Here's one I got this summer - NOS in the box - dated 1966 inside - never worn - still has the tag on the chin strap. Over the years I've run across several different ones but RARELY ever find 'em big enough to go on my noggin' - but this one actually fits - doubt they'll let me run it at the Nostalgia Drags - but it'll still look good on my seat!
Heres one of the last ones I have... Its my dads old street helmet from the early 60's.. it and all his helmets and triumph bikes were painted by Tommy the Greek he was a friend of my old mans!!!
I was stymied at a swap meet (Columbus, Ohio Ford Meet) and there was an "antique show" at the same fairgrounds so LATE in the day we went over there - so I didn't go home empty handed after all - spent hours and hours walking the meet - only to find this in the 2nd row at the Antique Show. Doesn't really help - I know.............. BUT!!!! Since then I have seen some on EBAY - they usually have NEW linings as the origonal ones disenegrate over time - you might want to check there - it's been several months since I saw them there -as I recall they claim they are "OLD" but makes you wonder when the guy has more than one. I dunno. Worth a looky see I'd think.
Here's one I used for a photoshoot with my car recently More here... http://www.grant.gb.com/petra.htm
I've been buying old helmets at swapmeets also. Probably been at it for close to ten years now. I try and only pick up the ones that are heavy metalflake with crazy designs. I attached a few examples.
These are Cromwell's They have a wonderful shape. The black and white one came from a normal antique flea The guy had no idea what he was selling
When Bell was sold to Protec they found old boxes of Helmets. They were all labled the same. The first ones opened were just old old white helmets. The first safty helmets in history. They just thought they were old junk helmets and didnt look thru the rest of the boxes. They trew the damn things away!!!!!!! Some of the first racing helmets to custom painted helmets all the way up to the 90s. Shirly Muldowny, Garlits, Foyt you name it they had it. In the F@#$#@%$#@ TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bell bought the company back a few years after the travisty. Sorry about the spelling?!
Alright Ive been looking for one or two vintage helmets for a while......any of you guys wanna part with some? Thanks, -Dean
