Oh yeah----- Snacky-- there might be a big one or two-digit number cast on top of the exhaust port area of the heads. Also there will be a serial number stamped on a pad on the top of the block deck on the left side under the head. What are those numbers, and we'll tell you what year it is. As for the TH400 conversion, Tanson's Ent. (1-800-FAST-88S) has them, as well as Dave Smith in Exeter, CA and one other source whom I've forgotten. If you don't want to run an old school hydro, and you don't want a stick, and you don't want a bone-stock original trans, and are looking for performance/durability, etc., then these conversions are the way to go. But for those of use that want hydro's and sticks...
Ok Peter...Mr. rodnkustom... You're lucky I'm a nice guy... Hahaha..!! I was watching that very same Nicson manifold tonight... (I don't know if Yorgatron clued you in or not) I was going to bid in the last minute, and just before I did, I refreshed... and saw your name... I decided to not bid... #1 since I wasn't sure if it would fit my engine, and #2 you are a fellow Hamber & Yorgatron's buddy... So, did Yorgatron clue you in about the auction..?? (be honest, or the ebay gods will eat you alive...) and do you think it would have fit my engine..?? I have a thing for Nicson stuff, I told Yorgatron about that in my PM to him... He never wrote back to me... Oh well... Later... Snacks...
12-pack, that car looks the same to me. OK, here are a few pics... The Safford-Gaide-Ratican fueler, aka "The Sour Sisters" car: Ratican's car at Cacklefest a couple years ago: The old Pellegrini car way back when: Pellegrini at launch: Jere Wilson's rail: More to come...
BTW, Rocket88, that there is a "UC" coded B&M, an Unblown Compe***ion model. If it hasn't been monkeyed with, and if it's not worn out in the places that wear out, that's supposed to be a hard-shifting ******. I'm still lookin' for another "BC" coded version...
Nope, sorry man, wouldn't have bid if I knew you were into it man, I'm into rare stuff, a little of my collection, not all rare mind you!... My Horne, only know a couple others around, Here's my later style edmunds 2x2, Here's the earlier one, And, of course this! he he he, Sorry, couldn't help myself!! Damn 12pack!! I had know idea that that was your ride!! I drool over that thing all the time!! Man, does it look good!! Any more pics of it?! If you have fullsize ones you could send them to my email, peter@harbornet.com Later, and sorry again for out bidding you man, we should get an email list together or something, I'm going to try and start a small board for us olds guys, to releive some of the pressure and to get quicker answers to stuff. I only have a few more things that I need to get to build my rad 324 olds block!! I can go into detail if you want, always looking for opinions anyhow. Later, you know how many times these folks have seen these pics!! lol... -peter

heres a spare rocket I picked up about a year ago. I bought this setup from a hot rodder who had it a long time under his bench. He gave me some header plates he made in high school shop cl***.........he is about 50 years old now. He got the motor from an old timer in the late 60's. Motor has Isky rocker arms and some wierd mallory distributer with a coil box no one can figure out. It is suppose to be rebuilt but I have not pulled it apart yet. Notice the LaSalle trans with the Mystery shifter. Any of you rocketeers run a old caddy trans? I hear they are tough. This trans is suppose to be fresh inside too with new Br*** somethings? inside. All those guys with sbc and olds valve covers don't know what they are missing! Long live the rockets! Steve
Mecutem, I wonder if that might be a Mallory Magspark? If I get that pickup load of stuff from that guy, he had told me there was a Magspark in the pile. Only the second I have ever heard of for Olds, like the DuCoils and Spalding Flamethrower's, not many around. OK, more pix: Mr. Olds's car in '66 (where were you?): The Israeli Rocket dragster: Hugh Tucker's A/SR engine: The Albertson Olds rail as it sits today at the NHRA museum: More to follow.
Hey Mecutem, the local napa guy said he built up his '56 rocket motor that he had in his old '49 2dr sedan, about 40-50 someodd years ago, he said he went through about 3 tranys before his put a LaSalle behind it, said that's the trany that was still in it when he sold it many years later. I would kill for that setup, , no really... Nate, that Alberson Olds is just plain rad!! I still think that someday we should all get together and build an olds powered rail for the drags! Speaking of DuCoils, heres mine, for anybody that hasn't seen one, of course. Later, -peter
So Peter, you never said whether you think that Nicson intake would fit my engine or not..?? (I know I still need to check the numbers...) Please let me know in case I ever find another one... I do have a 6x2 intake for it... you know anyody who might be interested..?? I really like the look of the staggered 4x2 as well... descisions descisions...
Hey rodncutom, Any chance you got that Ducoil from marcus? I think it was my old one that got traded when I needed parts for my Spalding ignition.
Yup, that's the one Chris! Any info on it?! And snacky, yeah it would fit your engine, edelbrock makes the stagard four, looks like it would be good for the street as well, as it's a dual plane manifold, instead of the single plane Horne I have, it's a square pattern 4 2brl manifold. Wish I had the money Snacky, and no, sorry man, I don't know anybody at the moment that's looking for one, but I'll try and remember your name if I hear of anybody wanting one. Later, -peter
when I stare at those dragster shots long enough I can hear em running. Sweet...sweet! As long as us rocketeers are meeting here does anyone know if anybody made a 8- 2bl setup? Also does anyone know if mallory still has parts or services their old procucts? heres a few shots of the distributer I would like to use. I don't know a thing about it but love it. Can a rodder get enough R's out of the early motors to justify running a mag?Steve
You guy's are killin' me! Some of these parts pics really have me drooling. Snacky, you need one of these.
Jeff, did you finally get one?!!!!! Dude, you've been chattin about one of those for years!! lol... And Steve, I'd love to find out what the hell that distributor is as well!!! Not sure about mallory man, and I have never heard of an 8 2brl maniold, doesn't mean you can't make it yourself!! -peter
Rocket88- You are correct sir..!! is that one for sale..?? or are you just ****ing with my head..? Let me know...
How to tell an Olds engine from a SBC? No problemo at all for a true Rocketeer. If you are talking about the SBC's that have the Olds valve cover trick, I tend to look for the angle of the valve cover, the Olds ones lay over more and SBC's are a little more upright. Also the center exhausts can be a clue, though not necessarily (some Olds heads are split on the center two)
Snacky, just ****ing with your head....lol... Actually I had two of these. Sold one a while ago to Billetproofdude. But he found himself a tripower, I think his is for sale.

I knew that Olds engines had three exhaust ports per side, but had seen ones with headers that had four pipes (siamesed middle pipes), so I wasn't sure if that was a solid clue. Thanks for the tip regarding the angle of the cover.
Does anybody have a set of Fenton valve covers they are willing to part with..I have the manifold & etc for mine but that is the final missing piece i need to 'complete' the motor..I have Offy's but they are just not it to me...Dirty
