This begs the question, what orientation of space is the best? Meaning deep or wide. I am in the process of makeing preparations to build a small shop and didn't know whether I should build it deeper than wide or wider than it is deep. To me, I would think that wider would be better, but maybe that is just what I am use to with my father's shop.

So the question is wider or deeper.

Well at leat I know what it is now. I bought that the the swap meet in Missouri this past summer, we were there for the hamb drags. Being from Arizona I did not bring any rain gear, I walked the whole swap meet in the rain carrying a bomb on my shoulder. I had to change before I drove back.

    What era is that from?

Glen, the BDU -33 has been in use for close to 50 years or better. I first started working around them when I was ***igned to an Ohio Air National Guard unit in 1967 working on F-84 F fighters, and they had been using them much earlier than that. When I retired from the ANG in 1998 we were still using them on the F-16. They are actually a practise bomb that the pilots would drop on the targets at practise bombing/gunnery ranges. They have somewhat the same ballistic characteristics as a 500 # lb, but are definitely much cheaper to use to train pilots with instead of the real noisey type ( explosive loaded), 500 #ers. These practise bombs actually had a small explosive ( spotter charge) in the nose that exploded on impact with the ground so the folks in the scoring towers on the bombing range could calculate the miss distance from the center of the target, and would radio the pilot his score. This enabled the pilot to make the necessary corrections to his bomb delivery techniques and hopefully become a better " shooter".
They are still in use today by all branches of the U.S. that fly bombing misions.
I know this is pretty long winded, But now you know!!!

Here's some pic's from my new shop I'm in the process of building. Of course we had to carry on the tradition of the garage party. This was the 11th annual party but the first at my new shop!:D

I am SO jelous, especially of the ultra sano machine shops. No offense to the others but I am very **** retentive. The Porsche race shop I used to work at was so clean you could eat off the floors. For now I'm stuck working in this little one car apartment garage, but tickled pink to have it. Beats the hell out of a carport. Good thread!

Just a 2-car garage, but it's seen quite a bit of action over the years. It'll be a while till the dream shop gets built on my property, so I'm sure it will see quite a bit more action. Need to pull the toys out to use the tubing bender and the welder shares an outlet with the dryer, but it beats wrenching outisde under a tarp.
