Technical Let's talk about 700r4 durability...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by JK, Apr 23, 2015.

  1. So, sometime during the crash of my merc, my wife's derrière managed to knock my the shifter into park (along with breaking off the shift knob). My concern is that the tranny is trash and I won't find out until I fire it back up and drop it into gear. What's the chances the tranny survived? Anything I can look for now give me a heads up? How tough are these Trannys? The park pawl is not broke because it will hold park, so that's a plus.

Generally when you put it in park while moving the parking paw will just ratchet till you come to a complete stop before it engages, personally I would try it ,you have nothing to loose. If you want you can pull the pan and check the parking paw and look for any metal in pan, probably not a bad tine to change fluid and filter if it has been done lately. Been body shop business for over 50 years and have only seen broken cases. I would run it. Frank
