a friend of mine recently purchased a "known" car from a local cat . lots of guys know the car and its super hip. the guy who purchased the car has no buisness sitting in an old custom and is all bent outta shape that things rattle and you smell like gas and its hot inside. some of his grips are legit but this car has been rolling for over twenty years, on drums, crazy exhuast, bias plys and way to ****ing low if you know what i mean. hes talkin about changing this and air baggin that. its just a shame that cool can be bought and sold just like that. and a beautiful, true custom may meet its demise becuase of the almighty check book.i love cars that have soul. thier o.g. motors or period parts. why do you build? do you think your cars have soul? does 15 days under the hood mean anything to you? just ranting but go ahead and throw your two cents.
Hu-mans have soul. A car has no soul. A car is a reflection of the hu-man with a soul. If the new owners vision is to create a comfortable car, then that's the new soul. His soul. If he wants to paint it pink and can take the abuse, so be it. If the previous owner didn't want the car to change, then he should have put it in a museum. Most cars don't belong in a museum. It's just manufactured goods, with Arabian oil to run it.
Wrong......cars, especially hot rods and kustoms have soul. That souls is created by the builder/owner. If the new owner decides a soul change is necessary, so be it.
I couldn't agree more - if you or the previous owner had such qualms about the future of the car, you either shouldn't have sold it or should have bought it. It has ceased to be your concern. The best you can hope for is to guide him in his decision making and make sure he doesn't totally **** it up Cottington billet style. But even if he does something that stupid, it will have been his decision to make. Maybe you can express your concern about the cars soul and suggest some alterations and modifications to suit him and not totally destroy the aspect of the car.
Yeah but it ****s, if you got the long green to buy an old custom, once it is exchanged, thats your entry fee to change it to whatever you want. Stinks. My uncles 54 Merc kustom was bought by a local builder, known car, very known actually. Anywho, he changed the color, rear bumper and a few items, but he did a fabulous job on it. Also bagged the front, which is not trad but it rode like **** with like 2 and a half coils cut...it was ridiculous. Few things to make it more comfortable, but still has the same lines, same Y block with trips under the hood, Im happy.
All objects have there own soul, be it inanimate or animated. Its the collection and ***embly of these parts that gives a car true soul. I'm guessing Recardo the only soul your car has is the ***hole behind the wheel. Doc.
Oh I believe in "soul". The one trouble is we have to be "tuned in" on their frequency. Millions and millions of people go through life with their antennae tuned to a different frequency. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it just means that they can't hear it or feel it. Of course there have been cars that I've bought that were just screeming out to me to get rid of that angora hair headliner and get them in some more tasteful duds. The previous owner couldn't hear it because he was on a different wavelength.
I'm no sheriff. But I think it's funny that you think a car has no soul. Apparently you've never had a car that ran better after you washed it. Or that would fire easier if you opened the garage on a nice day. Cars do have souls. Of course the guy can do anything he wants with it now that it's his; that's not what I was commenting on.
i've come to the conclusion lately...that the more billitized, smoothed over, street rodded cars around just means more GOOD hot rod parts for me... i say if you want a car a certain way or a certain soul to it...you should either buy the car yourself and preserve it how it is...or build your own car with your own soul in it... i recently bought a car with something to it...and im changing it a good bit from how i bought it to suit how "I" think it should be...now im not ruining it persay but im not leaving it looking like how alot of people remember it i've also built a car that i think has something to it but i just built it last year... both give the illusion of "soul" i think... you gotta remember...some people wear soft soul shoes and some wear work boots...its still soul...its his car and its his soul my 2¢ Zach
I think the soul of the car comes along with years of ownership. when you get the grease off of every nut and bolt on the car onto yourself, a little of yourself ends up in the car. if he wants the car to be closer to what he dreams about, then so be it. this does not account for good taste (said the self ***led muscle car guy) just because someone adds thier own "flavor" to a car doesn't mean they are cooking eggs and bacon together. sometimes, you get eggs and brussel sprouts. hell, he might get into work on the car and do some really kick *** stuff. that said, he might have a giant ***** airbrushed onto the hood and call it "the wangmobile" it is your place, as his friend to advise against the bad stuff, and it is easily done by giving history lessons.
Soul? Just a choice of words. I use it in this context most of the time too. It can be rightly argued that a soul is God given. on and on and on.. I agree with this idea that a car with history has its own personality and soul. Thats mainly why i am on this board. It all went back to the day when I ran away from home at four yrs old and hid in a 40 coupe a block away. Untouched and in disrepair. In my mind, that day, I drove that car to California and back. the smell of the mohair will never ever leave my memorybank. Yes that car too had soul. And it permeated my being. It kills me to see old cars changed to a point where this old state is new. It will take many decades for these cars to achieve that status.
****ing religious zealots, I don't even believe in god. Now would you like some cheese with that whine??
Geez, you people must not have gotten layed last night. Bunch of at***udes for so early in the morning. Go get your coffee. It ****s to watch someone screw up a good thing, but he should definately take care of any exhaust leaks or gas leaks. I love the smell of gas, but not all the time. Is he talking about some changes like to the cosmetics or just mechanical? I don't see anything wrong with improving on the ride quality and safety if he plans to drive it.
Well its 0038 hrs here and Im a cranky turd at my best. This guy has no ****ING idea. Ahh, ****it. who cares, I bet he has red wheels and spiderwebs too
i thought OSR was for this kind of garbage... i'll be surprised if he isnt banned and boy o boy, sometimes i think certain parts even have soul!!! i know my intake does!
Holy sheeeeeet good people, did someone hit a sore spot here or what....LOL? My question is "who the **** cares" whether a car has a soul or not? Pesronally, I always thought only living tissue could have a soul, but i don't give a dump if your car does or not. I mean sheeeessh, lets get real here.
Beep, you make my heart bleed, but I got over it. OldmanOldas, thanks, I kinda got a laugh out of it too.....
I believe that cars have soul in the same way that music has soul. If the inspiration comes from the creator's heart, the creation has soul. If the inspiration is contrived from a desire for the approval/acceptance of others, or from the desire to gain commercial success, the creation has no soul. Rolling Stones = soul Journey = no soul Baskerville's '32 roadster = soul Boydster = no soul
Cars can have "soul". It starts with the men/women on the drafting board running a pencil on paper. It continues with the men/women ***embly ***embling the thing by hand using basic machinery like they used to. We leave a little bit of ourselves on everything we touch. Especially things that are special to us, and we spend a lot of time with. Over time this builds up and if you are paying attention you can feel it. Call it soul, or experience, or the personality of a car. Computers, wind tunnels, and robots, have killed that vibe in new cars.
Doc, play nice...recardo, sorry man...it sounds like you don't get what we're talkin' about. When you jump in somethin' old, you get a sensory overload of smells, colors, textures, etc. You can't get the same vibe in somethin' new...that's its' soul.
