do you think a guy can get away with stock valve covers and rocker shafts with a .480” lift? I’m looking at the same cam setup with 390 heads. 1.6:1 ratio

It's not the amount of lift that causes it to hit the valve covers, it's when you convert to adjustable rockers.

Will a 1957 water pump fit a 1956 365 engine? I need the water outlet on the passenger side instead of the drivers side.

I want to see if anyone in here would be interested in this 1955 remand water pump before I list it for sale. 200.00 plus shipping. 20221128_110727.jpg 20221128_110741.jpg 20221128_110748.jpg 20221128_110801.jpg

only other thing to check- 1957 had the timing tab and the balancer mark on the opposite side to avoid the pump inlet. I’m not sure if you can see your timing marker with a 57 pump on a 56 setup easy. Might be good to double check that to be sure

This is the adapter on my engine now. It came out of a 40 coupe. Is there a way to adapt this the a Muncie or will I need one of the high priced kits? 20221201_115005.jpg 20221201_115012.jpg 20221201_115027.jpg 20221201_115034.jpg

That one is to adapt it to the stock Ford transmission. You will need to get a different one to convert to the Muncie I believe

OR...you could buy one of the flathead to G.M. four speed adapters that's currently available and bolt it to your existing adapter.

One like this? Would I use the clutch and pressure plate already in it? Screenshot_20221201-193443_Chrome.jpg

The disc will probly be different but you can still use the pressure plate. And yes that is the adapter you need

Hi all. Finally found an Un cracked head and got my truck running with this 390 Cadillac. Issue I’m having is I keep blowing my lower radiator hose off. I have a 16psi cap. I plugged the heater inlet and outlet on my water pump because I don’t currently have a heater on my truck. Is 16psi cap too much? Im just running straight water because im tired of dumping antifreeze down the driveway…. Any ideas?

There's something else going on there......the cap shouldn't make it do that, regardless of the pressure. It has to be getting hot in order to build that much pressure. How hot is it running? Pull the dipstick and make sure there's no water in it.

. I’m only running it a few minutes. Gauge says lower than 195.

Can you see coolant flowing if the cap is off?

Yes. After a few minutes water was moving.

Actually. It is moving but not like you would think. Thermostat is brand new but maybe it’s a dud. Maybe I’ll take it out and remove that variable

does the water pump have a bypass? I don't remember. I have the heater hose fittings plugged on mine too, but If I know myself, I probably drilled a couple of 3/16 holes on the outer part of the thermostat for a bypass....

A bypass? What would I be looking for? I was wondering if my plugging did something unexpected. That was my concern

I don't know if those pumps have an internal bypass or not (a route for the pump to push water when the t stat is closed) Maybe someone else here will know. I always drill 3/16 bypass holes in my thermostats, It makes filling initially easier with less or no air burping... and gives a route for the pump to move water when the stat is closed. I don't know if that is the problem or not though...

Before the cracked head, did the radiator seem to be ok?
