Guys, Ive tried doing a google search on this and couldn't find anything. Maybe I'm just not patient enough, maybe not. Where could I come across any information on any reproduction, NOS, or even used vintage mechanical dampers like I see on so many of the vintage rides in this thread. I'd love to put some of them on mine when I get to building it, but can't seem to find any info on them. Thanks in advance.

A large Internet auction site has a few to choose from. Search friction shock or Hartford dampener. Happy hunting!

Making springs for jappic take one spring drill it either side of the normal clamping bolt put bolts into new holes and cut springs in half, first spring was ok 2 nd seems harder and I can't drill it so may have to get the holes spark eroded ,

The springs are very nice with tapered leafs and nice radiused ends of each leaf

    Congratulations Ade!

Do you think you may end up removing some of the spring leaves? What is the distance from center of bolt to center of eye?

There has been some debate on definitions on this thread. My own view is that a cyclecar does not come about merely by adding "cycle" and "car" together, but requires the techno-aesthetic idiom and way of thinking that typified the historical cyclecar movement of c.1910-1925. This view is by no means authoritative, though, nor does it mean to denigrate the above Tri-Hawk.

That doesn't make the Tri-Hawk the same sort of thing as a Bedelia, though :)

That's never 1935. Its probably about 1922 as it's a 2-speeder with no front brakes and big front hubs.

    Best of luck with Jappic!

Ade, your Jappic project is coming looking awesome! I wish I had the time, $, space, and resources to build something like that! Thanks for the info on the Hartford dampers guys. It seems like if I want to get some new ones I'm Gonna have to order them from over seas. Oh, well. We'll see what the future holds.

Thanks for the speedway link. I was on their site just the other day, but was looking for some other stuff. And for about half the price of the ones from the UK, they might be perfect for my future build.

Check with Ted Davis in Oklahoma City. He's reproducing Hartford friction shocks in a couple of different sizes.

  20. Do you have pics of his reproductions?

Actually, I found replacement friction pads on Speedway's site & had thoughts of making my own. But I absolutely appreciate the info.

1912 Bedelia - a masterpiece of French engineering, and the epitome of just what a "cyclecar" is to me. Enjoy.

And this was already considerably less weird than some Bedelias. It's even got king-pin steering!

Thank you Onelung. The V belt on the right side looks like a modern upgrade. What would have been there in 1912?
