That IS a neat chassis. I have a new appreciation for how well these things are riveted together after drilling a few out on the Airhead Roadster the other day.

It's possible I may have posted this one before -the auction states it was for sale a year ago and the car does look familar to me. Thanks to this thread, I've seen so many that I'm already starting to forget.

Interesting front end treatment. Presumably the mesh box houses an air-cooled engine mounted, Morgan-style, ahead of the front axle. The front suspension appears to be by solid axle: underslung?

  15. That is underslung. If you look at the front springs in relation to the frame and compare it to chassis of the era it appears to me to be underslung.

This might be of interest to anyone restoring or replicating at wood framed/bodied Cyclecar. It's mainly about station wagons/estate cars/ shooting brakes but the material information and the techniques might be useful.

That would have been perfect for my Christmas list, were it not for the effect of the world economy on my nearest and dearest. It is even available from a local supplier - "within 7-11 working days" - though a bit expensive at R456.00.

Indeed. I'd taken the springs for rails at first sight. But then Detroit would make sense. Underslung rear axles were common enough in Britain and France, but underslung front axles were something of a late-Edwardian/early-Vintage American peculiarity.
