An interesting little vehicle from Isabelle... 12074790_10207872230512603_4692081553146851590_n.jpg 12088086_10207872229592580_4002980787613646740_n.jpg 12088138_10207872228872562_3772831561655880072_n.jpg 12088502_10207872215872237_1826015164537649357_n.jpg

    Bob,
    Wonderful contribution, as ever!
Cute small vehicle in a category of "sociable 3-wheelers": layout as motorcycle with side-car, but with steering as automobile, from side-car position! There were variants for 2 + 2 seating (netire familly)...
Some of my internet-friends like that (thinking about replicas), but I wouldn't dare to drive it, except in "fully pensioner-mode"!

    Zoran
P.S. manufacturer tried to sell it to army?

Collection: Marvin D. Boland Collection Series: G52.1-012 (Unique: 39053)
    Date: ca. 1914
Description: This young driver, sitting in his unnumbered race car, is believed to be Walter Grossman of Los Angeles. He and thirteen other racers had brought their "cycle cars," smaller and less powerful than regular race cars, to the Tacoma Speedway for special Labor Day competition in 1914. Mr. Grossman was also photographed in a "Red Devil" car of his own design and construction (see G51.1, image 120) which was far different from the car he is pictured in above. Although the boys were able to get in practice and speed trial times, rains on the actual day of competition cancelled the race. Mr. Grossman, part of a large contingent from Southern California, returned to his home after a second postponement.
    Subjects: Automobile racing--Lakewood--1910-1920; Racing automobiles--1910-1920; Automobile racing drivers;
    Image type: Black & White
    Print format: 8x10"
Rights: See Tacoma Public Library for specific rights and permissions.
    ---------------------------------------

    Hello,
Above is description for photo that Bob show us...
Now, Walter Grossman is his another car - "RED DEVIL"... Not many racing that day!
Note underslung suspension front & rear! Then, low chassis and engine at front, transmission similar to the first one...
    Ciao, Zoran

P.S.: Description for the "race with the second car "RED DEVIL":

#1156 - A century ago on Labor Day there was to be Midget race in Tacoma, Washington. Walter Grossman was ready with his “Red Devil” cycle car. It was pretty lonely, though. Only ten other cars came to town and less than 300 spectators. Promoter Frank Allyn, anticipating a monumental loss, pulled the plug on the show due to “dangerous track conditions.” It sure didn’t take promoters too long to get frisky!

That's a Scott ''Sociable'' Made by the makers of Scott Motorcycles. Like the bikes, it's a two stroke probably with a 600cc two cylinder engine. The entire frame was triangulated, consisting of 7 different length tubes==the idea being that frame repair would consist of replacing the damage with a tube of the correct length. There was a civilian version, and the Scott company took one and modified it, trying to sell it to the British Government during the first World War. Neither it, nor the civilian version were cataloged for long, although the bikes continued in production into the '60's Alfred Scott was an engineer well ahead of his time.

  21. This one may have appeared here before - I don't know - but it appeared on a New Zealand transport history site labelled 'Early Car, England'. So far it has been suggested that neither the car or the location are English. There is another pic of the car here - http://www.svvs.org/genpics15/Spacke_De_Luxe_Powered_Cyclecar.jpg - which shows the engine to be a Spacke.

... yes, good movie and good meal could be repeated with a joy, the same as information and photos of interesting small automobiles! Beside, this thread is quite long and it is good to refresh some issues!
    --- ---
About that cute cycle-car, it couldn't be Spacke De Lux Cycle-car, but could be a cycle-car with Spacke engine: they were used to power some other cycle-cars and motorcycles. That suspension & steering is quite specific - not of Spacke type at all. It is center-pivot steering and center-pivot suspension type... But, who knows – there were a few variants of any cycle-car?

    Ciao,
    Zoran
