There were a few, e.g. the twin-cylinder DKWs.

Transverse 2-stroke twin behind the front axle line.

 

BSA got the FWD design from Alvis who had dropped it due to problems they had. The Alvis was much heavier though. The BSA 3 wheeler also used it.

Bet the car and drivers did,nt look so fresh by the time they reached Melbourne . Wonder if they actually made it

I'm always surprised by the prices those bring. Really dumb little under powered cars but cute.

I got that same rush at age 12 when dad and I rebuilt my first Whizzer. I still get it whenever I breath life into an old engine.
