Guess I'm a fool. I built my Dragmaster styled digger myself with mild steel. The only reason mine won't tech is that the local NHRA inspector thinks it's to different and doesn't want his name on it. I've got a friend in CA with a similar dragmaster which got certified to a 7.50. I DO have places to run her. :)

  5. There is not much one can do about a stunned inspector. I have run accross them everywhere. Once I had a 7/16 bolt in the battery hold down of my door slammer. he said i wasnt legal because the book said 3/8 and i had 7/16. (Esta Saftey park 1991) I spent about 10 miniutes explaining that it must be a minimum of 3/8 and 7 /16 was bigger and so stronger. or cant be less than 3/8s . He was unconvinced but finally let us run. There is nothing you can do but build it by the book . There is no cure for stupidity unfortunately. I got a friend who is a sema guy to look it over and he gave me a green light. I feel your pain though.

  8. if you run under 150" wheelbase you have to have frt suspension when we had my friend's fed tech he spotted us as dirt track racers because we used aluminum radius rods and drag links. If you buy something already built sit in it to make sure you have enough room I had to p*** on a gooood deal because I'm 5'10" 230lbs and couldn't fit my shoulders were too wide. is it a bolt-on or a welded hardtail?

Im 5'8" 250lbs and 3ft wide at the shoulders. It started life as a bolt on now welded on tail i cut it to 2" under to give it that flat track lookwhich lead to a host of problems i must have a 100 hrs in a custom oil tank to have room for the tire and bsa rear fender. It is the same wheel base as my old bultaco astro flat tracker. It has a rout 800 kit on it siftin cams joe hunt mag and weighs under 300lbs very quick for a 1965 bike

Looks like i made up my mind. spoke to a few of my drag race buddies. Brian darcy a national record holder in a front engine dragster. my engine builder that runs a 7/8 scale tube ch***is 55 chevy. im going to build a 62 -64 ch***is research style car like the one 61cad has. only out to 120 wheel base. updated cage to be nhra ihra legal looking forward to running some nastalgia events and a little bracket racing looking to start out around 10sec bracket to start and get my licence down the road going to see if i can find a ch***is guy to build the frame. I like the style of the frame very simple straight forward and fits a guy my size going through the nhra rule book and genral safety specs now. will contact a few ch***is guys over the next week any one interested. thanks for the advice. Keep it comming. Larry
