ok so now that temps are getting back to where i can get some stuff done in the shop its time to get all the stuff ready for the nailhead rebuild. already got the qjet intake and talked to the guy about the HEI conversion. now lets back back up to the qjet situation. as of right now i haven't got a qjet for it. i've been told that the stock '66 qjet for the nailhead are actually kinda tempermental and have a few known issues. was told that its better to use a 800cfm from the 70-71 455, but it needs to be modified in some manner. i've got a line on a rebuilt '66 425 qjet i could probably get but would i be better off in having one from a 455 built. remember i'm actually looking for drivability more than performance here to. what has to be done for the 455 qjet to work. i know the 455 one would be easier to come by in core builder form. is there something on the web somewhere that goes thru the mod for the 455 carb? help i need to get these things lined up soon...ken....
Only issue I'm aware of is the linkage on the later carb hits the intake. Thicker base gasket or "Insulator" usually works. As far as the 66 carb, biggest issue is an internal leak that can be fixed with a little epoxy. For anyone serious about running a Q-Jet....get Doug Roe's book.
