    U.K. slang for 'cigarette'.............Fag

    E.G.
"I'm sitting reading this thread with a fag in my mouth".

  6. Wow! ... this thread is back up? ... I tried to post in it on Tuesday AM and it got closed while I was typing my reply.

    Anyway ...

Brizio is pronounced Briz-E-Oh, not Bree-Zee-Oh (like Cami Edelbrock pronounces it in the "Topless" episode of RIDES)

... and it's "The Hirohata (Heer-Oh-Hah-Tah) Merc", not "The Hirohita (Heer-Oh-Hee-Tah) Merc".

Houdaille (as in lever shock absorbers)? ... I've seen this name in car magazines for as long as I can remember, but I don't recall ever hearing the word. Pronunciation please, and thank you.

  8. billsill45 ... Like comedian Steve Martin used to say: "Those French, they have a different word for everything" :D ... My French sucks, but I believe it's pronounced "WHO-DYE".

UPDATE: Google is my friend ... according to this 1930 Ad, it's pronounced "HOO-DYE":

Ahh, one of the all-time great movie moments.

"No, no no! Fa-La-La-La! Now start again!"

"Deck the harrs with barrs of hahrry, fa-ra-ra-ra-ra, ra-ra-ra-ra..."

Spokane is correctly pronounced Spocan..... This error does make it easy to spot the tourists however.

Thames is pronounced Temms. As in the big river that flows through London.

Ute - Yoot as in Utility Yoot - illitty

Bear in mind Aussies and Limeys pronounce their "t"'s. Yoo Tilly Tee

:D London's big river is pronounced alot of ways over here but the panels will likely always be Th-ames to most of us yanks. English varys every couple blocks in some areas...:D So how about Anglia? An-glee-ah?... people also say An-ga-la or add/remove various other letter sounds.

  22. Pretty sure we Americans pronouce both "t", too. ;)

    An-glee-ah.
I was in an american junk yard (NJ) and wanted a front drum for a Pontiac.
Pon-tee-yack I was saying, fellow couldn't understand me, but Ponny-ack went down well.
That's what I was trying to say about pronouncing the "t"'s.

It's all good..It's the little differences that makes life and people interesting.

Mart. (with the "t" pronounced - MarT.) LOL

Houdaille... Who-dowel , thats how I always said it. Used to be a parts house in uptown Charlotte called Carolina Houdaille , so the word has always bugged me. Its probably a futile effort to get anybody from down south to say anything right, because if we cant say the word right, we will just make something up.:D

  29. That's the mid-east coast pronunciation. I grew up in DC, and my dad and both of my grandfathers who were born and raised in DC pronounced it "Warshington DC"...
