I have a pair of Delco lever shocks. If you pull the lever down it has resistance like it should. Let it go and it has a spring return to the top , no resistance. They only work in one direction. Is this how they all are? How would you mount them for use in one direction? Thanks
I have no experience with them, but I'd have to say you need to mount them upside down. You want resistance when they get pushed up to counteract the axle movement.
im pretty sure its the other way..... shocks are supposed to stop your suspension rebounding too fast and pogo-ing, NOT to stop it compressing as fast as it needs to. the spring itself counteracts the axle movement by storing the energy transmitted into it. thats why progressive springs ride better, they have a soft end to allow absobtion of small bumps, but a hard end to stop you blowing through the entire travel and bottoming out. the function of the shock, or damper is to allow the spring to release this energy in a controlled manner.
Lots of lever ("knee-action") action shocks were single action - the ones on my stock '37 Chevy coupe, for instance. Delco also made dual action lever shocks.
Sounds like one of the check valves is stuck open. You can access the checks under the end caps or slotted head plugs, depending on design. Take them out and clean them thoroughly. Re***emble, fill and test- Don't Mix Up The Valves! It may take a few tries to get all the **** out of them. Dan
