Now, don't get all stabby on me, it is just an idea that popped into my head. There are no plans here. Has anybody seen/done a Lexan roof, riveted, with properly flare-holed ribs, WWII bomber style? I understand that many of you will think this foolish. I just want to know if it has been done.
Check the latest Hot Rod Deluxe for a feature on Poor Boys Detroit member Bobby's Blue Model A sedan. Some of the guys in the club refer to it as the fish bowl. On a sunny day it looks pretty cool inside.

Wasn't there a bomber-themed A coupe in R&C a while back? It had rivets all over the place. Did it have a lexan roof insert? I don't remember. Seems like it had a tractor grille and was silver.
I think you are refering to "backseat betty" built by Kevin @ Hot Rod Ch***is and Cycle. I dont remember a build thread, but im sure there are lots of pics if you do a search.
Yes that coupe is called "Back Seat Betty" cool little car, the windows in the roof are designed after a P17 I believe.
I think they look super cool if well executed. I think I just saw a blue model A tudor with a plexi roof either in one of the magazines or online, I forget which. Maybe somebody else can pipe up?

I just grabbed the issue from the news stands. Very pretty car. It also happens to be the same vintage A as what I was staring at when the idea popped into my head, 'cept mine is a pickup. It is going to finally get a roof soon, but which roof, I am not sure yet. Fabric and vinyl tends to get slashed by the local welcome-wagon.
I dont have pics, but back in 1964-5 I had a 36 coupe with an orangey/pink perspex 9same as lexan?) insert. It was very cool, but man it got hot in the summer.
Perspex is Plexigl*** or Lucite, over here on the other side of the lake. Lexan is different stuff, but same concept.
Don't know if based on an actual car, but there was a model of an early 60s wagon with a full lenth red plexigl***/lexan(?) roof in the late 60s or early 70s.
The only real drawback I can see is that it would get "HOT" inside!!!And for an old guy like me it would burn my bald head!It looks great especially with the braces. ROY.
I did a 35 coupe for a customer back in the 70's I tried to talk him out of it. but it turned ok. better than I imagined.
If you live near a big town they'll have a "plastics" store. The one in my area is called "Tap Plastics". They will order whatever you want and cut it to size. Lexan is difficult to cut. I use a fine tooth paneling blade in my skilsaw and move at a snail's pace.
Back in the mid 80's when I was 16, there was a full fendered '33-'35 Chevy two door sedan for sale in town that I REALLY wanted to buy but could not even come close to affording (a whopping $7500 if I recall correctly). It was super low with parallel leaves front and rear, chrome wires and a really nice medium blue metallic finish. The roof had a full length blue plexi insert and it looked very cool for the era. I'd still buy that car today if it ever came up for sale. Steve
If you do a search for lexan, etc you'll find places that sell every kind you've never thought of. FWIW I had an O/T car for a day with a lexan roof. It was clear. In the Texas heat, no A/C, it was pure torture to be inside.
