Depends on the state and their laws. Ohio lets you paint 'em any combination you want... As long as you register them in those colors. Got a guy around here has black '58 plates on a Thunderbird with 2-tone purple lettering and some turquoise thrown in.
It's illegal in California because you do not own the license plates. They are "issued" to you by the state for identification purposes, and are for use only on that specific vehicle. That is why the authorities can insist that you "surrender" them if they are altered. It is uncommon, but it happens. My license plates are altered...
the DMV over here in Santa Clara has a wall with alot of plates restored, and the number of the guy that dose them. think its the same guy since they said it could be done, but i think they have to bee seen or at least registered first. rich
restoring and altering are different things. nothing like a handfull of people that want them to match their cars and **** it up for everyone else. they sell restored wa. plates that are not registered to any vehicles and the guy lives in oregon and he has been selling them for many years.
yeah i think you can only paint the plates the original colors they were made with, no other colors. I dont think at least, iv never seen them painted any other colors than the original ones they were issued with
