After many years of chasing the dream, I finally was able to get one. It's a 1956 Chrysler New Yorker St Regis I'm contemplating having “personalized” plates. What do you all think? 56 NYKR 56 NYER STREGIS NYORKER open to suggestions, too should I make this a POLL ?
Hello, As much backlash there is for being in So Cal, there is just as much for New York. Overcrowded, sketchy neighborhoods and water one would not swim in daily, despite connection to the ocean. So, any listing as NYORKER or any such connotation might not be the best showing. A "56STREGIS" would be my choice if I owned such a car. Now, that name plate would not specifically point out that the original name had New York in it. The St. Regis is a world wide popular name that is associated with luxury resorts all over the world. Jnaki Yes, there used to be a St. Regis resort in coastal Orange County. But, it has been renamed Waldorf Astoria Resort hotel. So, there is one up the coast in Newport Beach, but will be the marquee St. Regis resort in the coming months. The name of the current place along the coastal hilltop just did not have the draw as St. Regis. A hotel named after a bird just does not get it. (Pelican Hill.) YRMV My vote: 56STREGIS
I had a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Victoria Club Coupe but did not try to put all that on the license plate. I’m thinking year of manufacture state tag. My 56 Lulu BigUn Finz I would avoid anything having an N or R.
Nice car. I'm not a fan of cutesy, cryptic personalized license plates. Go with a YOM. That's JMTC it's your car.

Personalized plates are expensive here. Not to come off rude, but I always kinda shake my head & laugh when its something as plain as the model of the vehicle its on. Id use the opportunity to do something unique or funny. People always say I love your Nomad on our 57 4 door 210 wagon. I think a funny plate would read NOTMAD for us.
Might go with YORKER and people will see its a New Yorker when when they try to figure it out. Here's one that belongs to the son of a guy I met at the SRN several years ago.
Here it is. In great shape except for some "issues" which are being addressed. Needed new tires, got some Diamondbacks Accelerator pump plunger was bad. Needed all 4 front wheel cylinders. Master brake cyl needed work. Needs a water pump which is the hold-up now. @F-ONE "I would avoid anything having an N or R." why is that? Maybe if Moose happens onto this thread, he could do a few "what-ifs" Thanks all for the suggestions. Might use one or two for the online order; they allow 1st, 2nd, 3d choices . Will see how it goes.
Nebr allows 7 max, and a hyphen for Douglas, Lancaster & Sarpy counties only. @Budget36, my truck has GATZ271
In IL, you provide your 3 choices to the DMV, then they give you the options of choosing one of the three choices available, that they think are close enough to what you asked for. Most people that have specialized plates keep that plate forever. IL has been offering custom plates for 50 years, or more. Not a very good chance of getting the one you want, unless you are really lucky.
Here's how to find what's available in Nebraska https://edmv.nebraska.gov/TAP/_/ but I still think it's silly
