Well actually I lifted the engine out tonight with a rope wrapped around the engine. I didn't really like it so would like to make a bar to put it back in. I have read about an angled bar bolted to the spark plug holes Will this be strong enough? If so what is the thread size? I think I have inserts that reduce the plug size in my head so do I bolt to them or the original holes? Sorry for all the questions! If you have a couple of full-sized Model A plugs in trash condition...knock out or unscrew, depending on type of plug, the porcelain. Install in each an eye bolt...it should be a good forged one but if all you can get is the bent-from-rod kind weld the gap where the eye closes solid. Don't lift from adaptors...small threaded holes in aluminum.
Hey Andy. I made one of those bars to lift mine. It works a treat.I just copied the one I saw in the Macs catalog. I'll post a pick when I get to my computer.
Thanks for that, Bruce and Cactus1, I will look out for the photos. I don't have any old plugs as this is my first Banger. Cheers Andy
Here you go Andy. The angle iron is a piece I had 2"x3" x 1/4". As Bruce said, it uses two destroyed spark plugs and some grade 8 bolts. I had to ease the corners on the bolts to get them through the spark plug holes. I lifted mine complete with trans installed, no problem. Hope this helps. Sorry for the crumby phone pics. -mikethegreek-
