At least I see the light, my wife and bro may beg to differ. Maybe I just enjoy the punishment, wasn't happy with all the holes the firewall had so I pulled the engine, cleaned up the firewall, new motor mounts, new trans mount. I realized I am the type that enjoys working on them more than driving them!!

A few progress pics of the last couple of weekends.

Man ospho (Phosphoric Acid) makes it look like I pulled this thing out of the swamp!! You never really know how much rust actually "sleeps" in metal until you use this stuff.

Also a pic of my "engine cart" and no I didn't steel it, it was laying on the side of the road with the basket all mangled up. These things can really hold some weight

    SO....
    -chop finished
    -trans rebuilt
    -mounts done
    -firewall holes filled
-front disc brakes / rear brakes rebuilt done
    -new brake pedal
-all new lines brake and fuel
    -new booster/MC/valve done
    -new wiring harness
    -gas tank cleaned
    -radiator freshened up
    -all body hardtop reinforcing done
    -windshield gasket done
-95% of body stripped down to metal including dash
    -seats ready for upholstery

    some pics:

    needed:
    cut windshield
    clean up frame
body work (been waiting 5 years to get to this point)
    paint
    assembly

    I see the light....

seriously? No it's not, its flatbar slightly angled downward to clear the mount rubber.

Maybe it is just the pic, but the motor mounts do not look up to the job. What will keep them bending and angling further downward? Again not trying to be an ass, just a bit concerned. Later

that angle does look bad, here is a shot from the other side, which is a carbon copy of the passenger side. the bottom is welded onto the underside of the frame. In this picture the top wasn't welded all the way yet. comments? suggestions?

I think a triangle shaped plate tying the bottom and top of the motor mount and the frame rail together would be a big help in better distributing the stress. Without that I would be worried about the top and bottom flat stock bending under the weight.

Standing back and looking at it, you're right-good idea, it held the engine up fine, but once you add the torque and engine twist it adds to the stress.....

It looks like the engine will bounce on the mount thats why i asked if it was a leafspring. I believe you can mount a small block on that front crossmember with little fab work.

    Lookin good project!
Maybe box the sides of your motor mounts would make them a bit beafier.
