37 ford tail light grafted into a steel plate for a license plate mount swingarm mounted in an engint stand so it can be rotated
Flake-O-Licious! Nice Avitar too... Friday- Had an art show opening at my first gallery! Nothing big, just a small gallery. But I sold my most expensive piece (My show consisted entirely of hand colored, black and white, and color junk yard studies) within the first hour of the show. Never sold my photography as art before.. Saturday- My Pin-Up calander for 2005 arrived. Just in time for the Hot Rod Hoe Down. Had a CKD tent set up and sold quite a few of the new issue. Drove around on the "Super Kart" shooting pics. I was doing the same thing with video but was getting too many "flashers" for a PG-13 rating.. Had a great time. The show was HUGE this year! Plus, the people who entered got alot for thier money. More than any DEAD EAST show could think of. At a fraction of the price. I digress. Sunday- Car show at the Hoe Down location, but NOT the Hoe Down. The usual people, sitting in thier chairs, staring at thier bumpers. Alot like DEAD EAST. Left early before my arteries began to harden. Spike
Found this 34 coupe for sale, was originally an aussie coupe ute, has had a coupe rear grafted on. Cheers and beers Jimbob
Moved the G/F out of my house. She still has stuff outside, though. Hung out with my kids and claeaned the now much roomier basement so "unessecary" stuff in the garage can stay warm all winter and out of my way.
got the bed in primer on the 31 pu. continued sanding on the cab. worked on the fridge in the house. it atopped working yesterday. i think the compressor is toast. oh well always something in the way of working in the shop.
i went to the hoe down in delaware friday and saturday. sunday i gathered up all the parts that go with my caddy i sold and found lots of useless stuff from the car to put on ebay.
I lowered my truck.....hurricane clean-up style. Worked all weekend to get cleaned up from Frances in time for Ivan to do it again.
This weekend: With the help of Bugman I gave my flathead a second chance. Learned that it needs to be pulled out and worked on to get back to 100%, so I'm going to stick with my plans of putting a 302 in it. Then I dug into the 302. Crossed our minds that we should check the bearings before buttoning up the oil pan again. Main bearings are at .005-.006 so I need to figure out the crank issue. Looks worn funny, so I need a new crank and bearings. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB1&Number=546653&fpart=1&PHPSESSID= Good weekend overall, and I learned a lot from Bugman. Now I just need to get the parts together and fix up the 302 and drop it in my shoebox! -S
got alot done on the 49 ford pickup box ,new sides all framed in and now building a tail gate using the old panel with the script in it
Got the paint buffed out finally and started putting the trim back on. Fixed my heater finally so it will work. Started putting down heat shield/carpet pad so I can finish the interior. Helped my dad put the headliner in his 55 Chevy....those suck! I'm ready to go back to work to relax
starting to make a roof.....(need to do this part before I 'screw in' the interior.... Cheers, Drewfus
Didn't do a damn thing. Well, I did stripe a few more things around the garage throughout the weekend. A friend needed help putting his 396 together so he brought it over to my place on saturday night and we got the bottom end assembled. He should have the rings by tues. and we can finish it up.
On Sat, I got my ears lowered, changed the oil on the 54 pickup, washed it, and the wife and I attended a local Shriners bennifit car show. We sat and stared at the rear bumper and ate scrawny $3 brats, but it was for a good cause. Today we went for a ride, ended up at an open house at a historic grain mill on a dam. They had people doing things like cane chair weaving, rug weaving, blacksmithing, and a guy making things from a log with a hand held hachet. There were some hit-n-miss steam engines running and a few original model t's ans a's. It was kinda cool for a couple hours. On the way home we came through Beloit WI where they had go karts racing on a street course. We watched that for a couple hours, then cruised home. Pretty much a waisted weekend, again. But we are going to do it all over next weekend (waist the weekend) because that's what we do, and we like it. For those in the area, Beloit Autorama is next weekend. It's along the river just off US 51. They have over 500 cars pre registered, probably will have over 800 cars again this year, also a swap and car coral, it's cheaper to enter the show ($7 day of) then for two people ($5 each) to enter the spectator gate.
Late Friday afternoon I made a trip to UPS, where I got three more front axles that I polished for Flatlander's Hot Rods in Virginia on their way to the plating shop in Ohio. I took pictures of six more axles that I'll put on my site's Axles page soon. On the same trip to UPS, I also shipped a very rare, old magnesium racing wheel off to a pattern maker, but I won't be saying any more about that for awhile because I've been asked not to. On Friday night and again on Saturday afternoon, some local hot rodders stopped in at my shop. Late Saturday afternoon and part of Sunday were spent polishing a Chassis Engineering I-beam axle. I've polished several dropped early Ford I-beam axles, but this is the first Chassis Engineering axle that I've done. These forgings are smoother and more even than the Ford axles that I've worked on, and it sure is nice to work on steel that isn't pitted. I'm writing this on Sunday night, after starting to polish a '33-'34 Ford front wishbone. If it turns out like I hope it will, I'll split it and use it on one of my '32s. The high point of the weekend was giving the Heavy Metal Dog a large Meaty Bone biscuit ("basted in real beef juices"), and watching her spend several minutes rolling around on it with a big grin before she finally killed it. All of my car shit is off limits until Sept 30... This month we are putting up new siding, windows, roof, 2 decks in the back and hopefully getting a little landscaping done. Needless to say my life revolves around the house right now. But just to keep it car related, that's a 60 El Camino and a 59 4-door Bel Air in the driveway. The 59 is neat because it's a factory 348/4-speed car. Travis
Not a whole lot. Got my first body hammer and dolly and practiced beating dents out of a shovel and my toolbox before straightening my nearly finished battery tray. Noticed that all the contacts in my distributor cap are burnt, chipped, and covered in carbon, which may explain why my car won't start. Went to the parts store and had to order the new cap. Bastards. Compression tested my engine and found out it's in much better shape than I expected. While the spark plug wires were off, I decided to clean the thick layer of accumulated oil and grime from the octane selecter next to the distributor. Finally realized what the hell the octane selecter does and found out my engine is about 7 degrees retarded, which may also have something to do with my car not starting.
I cut my middle finger off putting my engine back together so I didn't get it running but after I got back from the hospital (they were able to reattache it) I reran the air line and most of the elecrical wires. It's starting to look like I might be able to drive it before the snow gets here.
Tried to convince ruttencutter to keep his flathead for the time being. it still runs very well on 7 cylinders, and not so well on 1. I'll try harder later. -Jeff
-Built a work bench for my new garage (who'd have thought 2 x 4's were actually 1 3/4 x 4) -Painted trim on the front of the house -Edged, dethatched, and mowed the lawn Car/bike stuff...just started unpacking parts from the move.
