GREAT LOOKING BIKE! Reminds me of the "Barn Job"from the 60's owned by Clem Johnson from Ohio(I think).Guy built it in a shed,cast his own engine parts in magnesium(the bike only weighed 260 lbs)and was turning 9's at 160 mph in the 1/4 mile.No other bike could come close to it so he retired it.Hot Rod magazine ran a feature on it back then.Wouldn't that be a great find if it was still around? Anyone know more about it?

 

I think Clem Johnson was from Long Beach CA.

there's not too much specifically I can tell you about the modifications as it's kind of secret, but I can tell you it's dynoing at 100 hp!

Nice..... real nice I love HRD/Vincents and that one looks awsome, a few other V Twin manufacturers could have learnt a little there.
Re the Barn Job, you want to take a look at the Britten story some time, hard to belive that you could still do pretty much the same in the late 1980's but they did, its a great story right down to pulling other peoples tossed out tyres from the bins at Daytona as they had no $ for more tyres

55olds88, i took those pics at North Weald in Essex about five yrs ago, the event was the ultimate classic bike sprint & out of the many hundreds of bikes there i can only remember two Vincents!!

I love to have heard that "barn-job" flat out.

 

Just remembered i took this at Bonneville in '98 just after a lucky escape at the far end.

 

I can't remember how many I saw at the TT back in 91 or 92 but I know on the prom at Douglas there were about a 1/2 dozen of everything you never figured you would see.... incl a real nice Elgi framed Ducati with the keys in it, damn good thing I honest it was very nice.

I could look at cafe racer photos all day. I'm finishing up a racer-y [get this] Guzzi V50 bike project at the moment. it's neat! you think you're just going to put in a clutch and pretty soon it's in a million pieces and you're horsing around with and changing everything.

you know, maybe it's time to have a HAMBike board...for us loons.

-------------------------------55Olds, you'll like this; back in '94 I was driving through Wendover, decided to detour out onto the salt, and there was but one bunch of guys out there- from NZ, with the Britten streamliner.

I kid you not. it was too windy to make their run, so I went out and did a secret run...heh. they couldn't have been nicer.

I'm in pursuit of a series B Black Shadow owned by a nutburger and been in an LA basement since '73. I turn in my head how cool it would be to put it back together as a two-wheeled version of my deuce, but it'll prolly be smarter to sell to someone who knows what theyre doing and buy me a roadster body. As soon as I finally come face-to-face with the******** I'll post a pix.

 

I like that Foiled, the whole Britten story is pretty hard case, the video has them casting the block and quenching the fresh bits in a PVC bucket full of water while carefully struggling around trying not to drop the damn hot casting, shame the man died so early he had some neat ideas and the bike could have gone far, they raced in the US battle of the Twins and at the Isle of Mann. There were rumours of Harley/Indian buying the engine rights at one stage....
Your messing with a V50 they seem pretty small, I rode a mates T3 but it felt too small (specially with 2 6 foot + guys on it).

indeed...it's tiny. I like it though. for what it is it's a really good handler and it makes a great noise. it'll handle better when I figure out a way to swap in better forks but still keep the fork lowers and brake mounts. good brakes. it's no Le Mans and tops out at perhaps 100 but it seems in a hurry to get there.

Britten was a genius, the real deal. in addition to being an innovative designer and engineer, the guy was a glass-blowin' sculptor, for cryin' out loud! a true rennaissance man.
