Does anyone know where I might find a bracket that would properly align the throttle valve cable from a 2004R trans to a 2GC Rochester carburetor? Background...I have a 2004R transmission bolted up to a 1960 Chevy 348 with the factory 3x2 setup and I want a bracket that will mount the tv cable with the correct geometry to make it work properly. I have been searching the web to no avail. And I am getting too lazy to make one unless I have to.
Not hard to make. Just do a mock up so you can get the tv cable with enough adjustment so the shift points can be fine tuned then use the mock up bracket as a guide to make one that looks good. you will love the trans. I should show you how the tv bracket is on my daily ruster 72 c10 is. Its held together by a bunch of zip ties. Did it as a mock up and it worked good so I left it. Been that way for over 10k miles, still going strong. The trans is a bolt in from u-pull-it $54 out of an '89 olds vista cruiser wagon. Its behind a stock 250 6cyl. Bolted right in place of the manual three speed. The extra gear is awesome. Hands down, best mod ever. What ring and pinion and tire size you using?
Yeah, its looking like I may have to fab one. I guess it doesn't matter much cause I have had to fab everything else on the truck. The rear is a 3:25 9inch right now but I have a 3:55 that I am thinking would be better in it. I also have another one that I haven't checked the ratio on yet, I have heard that up to about 4:11 is good with a 2004r, what ratio are you running?
X2 on making one. I'd find a carb or throttle body for that application and measure the distance from center for the pin. After that just put it off center half the distance of travel from idle to full throttle.
Yup^^^^ what he said. I'm running 3.73 with a 27 inch tall tire. Just about perfect. I am putting together a trailing arm rear suspension for a 50 Merc right now. I am thinking about doing the same for the 51 Merc driver also. It has a tri-powered small block chevy in it in front of a turbo 350 twisting a 2.73 rear. I have a new 3.73 r&p I just installed in a 10bolt. I want to replace the 350 trans w/the 200-4r and replace the 2.73 w/the 3.73 in the 51 driver. I think those changes on the 51 will really make it soooo sweet to drive, and its pretty sweet now. Its one of those things that if you don't know or have any experience with, you would think its not a big deal. But once you drive a well set up 4 speed auto, then go back to driving a 3 sp auto, you sure miss that extra gear.
