Rough week for contemporaries... Lil' john was a tough guy with a tough mentality, but all that knew him well said he had a heart of gold. He certainly left his mark on the world. He'll be missed by many.

In any regard, I thought I would let you fellas know...

EDIT: Apparently the above is not a buttera car... my mistake. In reality, a car that John did build (Don Schumacher's) beat this car at the 1970 US Nats...

Bummer.....I can remember his cars in Street Rodder when I was about 13 or 14 in the late 70"s.....they seemed even to a kid like me to be so contempory and ahead of thier time, yet they were Hot Rods through and through......if I only had 1/100th of your talent Lil John....Ride In Peace.

What might be the biggest part of his legacy in my opinion?

John was the last "REAL" Indy car builder.

Ugh! Unfortunately not a surprise though. He was really sick for a long time. Then they let him go home, but with a nurses care. Last week he was readmitted to intensive care and the family was told to stay close.

This is only the start. The older generation of heroes is starting to go away. Absorb all of the knowledge you can from our elders, because when they go it goes.

The kit I built of his T Seedan definitely plugged a new and different appreciation for vintage cars and rods into my then young brain - and his sense of style, stance and build quality has influenced thousands upon thousands of rods and cars overall. I think that once we truly study his contributions, we will be amazed at the depth of how what he built affected what the automotive world did. Godspeed friend - We'll miss you Lil John.
