Seems like a smokin deal, for a car of that provenance. Needs a major detail underneath, and the rad shell switched back to chrome, but man, I'd love to put that in my driveway.
interesting car but it is a little too modern for me… besides I am painfully out of room here as I have too many cars already….
That car defines the 70's. I'd love to own it myself, but like Mark, I'm totally out of room. I hope whoever ends up with it honors it's history.
Iconic for sure. Whom ever replaced the Holley carb and ‘lil John milled air cleaner with an AFB and K Mart air cleaner should be taken out behind the barn and…….. When John drove the car to St. Paul for the ‘Nats he then headed to SE Wisconsin to visit his hometown of Kenosha, he stopped in Racine to see a friend and took him for a ride in the T, that friend still talks about the experience today. This car needs to be returned to it’s former glory and be preserved as part of Hot Rodding history.
The Peterson Museum is selling it? Never donate anything to a museum…unless you don’t mind them trading it for some operating expenses cash! Loan it, with supporting paperwork, would be my advice.
I don’t believe they ever had the sedan in display, the last time I was at the Peterson I saw the car in the basement “vault”along with quite a few well known hot rods.
The car does it for me and always has, about the only thing I would change is the c4 for a OD and the chrome grill. Then it would get driven a lot. The next guy could restore it…
I remember building the model of this car when I was a little feller, it just cemented my desire and love for old cars and street rods.
My problem is that I have room for a sizable addition to my garage and could go ahead and build it but if I did that I wouldn’t have the money to put anything in it It’s kinda like the whole buying a new wallet thing……..
Peterson has sold a lot of stuff, I wonder what the absolute truth is? I'll be watching when it ends.
Operating expenses for any public place are a big nut. Add in insurance for not only the general public but for very high value display and it's gotta be pretty eye-watering. The gift shop and entrance fees alone probably don't cover staff, utilities and upkeep. Even as a non-profit with low tax rates and a foundation, it's probably net loss. Then there is the matter of space. It's gotta be a lot of hard choices to balance. https://www.petersen.org/petersen-board-members
On a trip to LA in '18 I visited the Petersen and as usual, drove through the entire parking garage because you'll always find something they've moved out there for a minute. That's where I found it.
Hammer fell, eventually, at $44,500. I do like the 2 minutes the bid has to stand for, as distinct to the ebay deadline model. Chris
