the wheels just loose it for me.

great workmanship I'm sure, but I get a big soft-on over those wheels.

John seems to have broken new ground with this car. For as much as I've always admired everything he's done I'm having a little difficulty getting used to this one. Maybe time will let it settle.

Everything he's ever done has been inspirational and breathtaking. It'd be nice if we could see some real magazine coverage of this newest creation from a TRUE craftsman, rather than page after page wasted on rockstar TV build trucks with the worst hood gap you've ever seen in your LIFE and 'award winning' Coast-to-Coast knock-off coach-builts by the same shady 'builder'...but **** sells these days!

Lil John has done some amazing things over the years, and always pushes himself to explore new territory. I love that little modified, looks like an evolution of the little one he and Fat Jack Robinson built for Strohs Brewery back in the mid 80s. Maybe in thirty years when someone "finds" this mod somewhere, still holding together, running like a Swiss watch and looking perfect while other 'flash-in-the-pan' Superstar RIDES have withered to the wind the world will appreciate ****era's talent and the car will get some ink!

Till then, here's some of his past work...

Back in the early-to-mid 90s, ****era built one-off custom Harley-based bikes...long before being a custom bike builder was "cool". They were THEME BIKES, too...the 'theme' being Quality...and Craftsmanship...each was a tribute to those ideals!

    :)

I remember ****era from his drag racing days...he's an Icon in this 'biz BUT this new ride, I think, isn't up to his previous efforts.

But I'm glad to see he's still building...

I believe he was one of the pioneers in handcrafting car parts from scratch aluminum block, hence "billet". Still in awe of people whom handcraft their own car parts. Billet schmillet, if ya' built your own Rod, my hat's off to ya'.

Still have the model car I built too many years ago, of his 27' T. Still love that chromed Jag rear-end. Very innovative for the time.

  13. I'd take the body by itself, it's beautiful... The wheels and tires, while not HAMB material, probably get the job done very well. If I am looking at it correctly, it looks like the front axle locators retain the shape of a model A frame... Maybe I'll doo a little photchopping and put on some HAMB wheels and see how y'all like it.

Is it just me, or is the rear end too narrow?

Idano, it's too modern-looking of a car for the wires...

    Curves, flats.

    Chrome, White.

    Split screen, alloy 5 spokes.

Its off... doesnt mean the work isnt good... just that it doesnt look "right" to my eye.

O.K. guys is it just me or does Lil' John's new modified look like the old Stroh's modified with some changes? Same body shape and tank over the rear end; but a '29 grille shell instead of a '32 and a different windshield. Obviously there are other detail changes like headlights, wheels (ugh) and paint. But this looks like the same basic car.

No doubt about it, the man is a craftsman when it comes to building cars and bikes. He thinks in his own box which is outside the box of most other builder's. And its different than a lot of us around here. Maybe we should learn to think like Lil' John? Meaning CREATIVELY!

Yes, he did start the billet craze, but he made his own parts. He didn't buy them from someone else who made thousands of the same thing. There's that craftsman thing again.

My bad, the Stroh's modified is a '29 body and this new one looks like a '27. Oh well, the fingers are faster than the over 40 brain again.

  17. eh, well anyways, i dig the style on this one:

though the paint, coil oversm and wheels got to go!

    but i like everything else.

Uninspiring. There's not a single part on that car that would make me reconsider how I built my own - and that seems to be how I'm looking at hot rods these days.

I have always liked most of Lil' John 's rides, but I think he missed the mark this time. A valiant effort that I`m sure has some innovation in the build, but falls short of style! Sorry John.

I have not forgotten Jack **** Frank....and I certainly think John is and has IMMENSE talent.:)
I think this one is a pant load.

  21. I have always loved Lil's cars,and he is a legend of a builder.
But I can only imagine what the reaction in the hobby would be if any of us had built this car........It would probably be one of ridicule.

  22. fat Jack and Lil John. Back BFH (thats before Fat Hack) I posted a question about my fav car here on the HAMB that I couldnt find in my old mags.............the car? The Strohs Mod. Some guy I didnt know but now consider a pal named BenD sent me a scan.

The strohs Mod moved me as much back then as it does now.

I don't get it. :( And why is it on the H.A.M.B.? It belongs in a "Buckaroo, hi-tec, smoothed-out, billet laden, mega buck, gold chainer, cars I would never want to own, magazine". :)

    Lil John-
    keep doing what you do.
Back in '80 when I was sitting in cl*** in high school with the book open with the latest rodder magazine stuffed inside I knew what I wanted to do. Your work was an inspiration to me and thousands of others.
A lot of your work may not be "traditional" but we all know what you and others have done for hot rodding. ;)
They'll either get it or they won't...

Mr ****era...I think most of us here think of you as a legend and that you do not get the proper recognition for what you have done for hot rodding. With that said I have to apoligize that I am with those guys. This is the first car you built that I didn't like. I like some of the details of the car but the overall car does not hit me. I guess it really doesn't matter though. You built the car for yourself. That's what we all should do. You're also right hot rodding needs another red 32 roadster like we need a hole in the head.

Here's my cars. Cut them up if you like but I built them for myself and enjoyed the **** out of them.

  27. lil' john, good for you ! There is a lot more to life than a red '32 highboy roadster. I agree 100%. Everyone should build for them self, Who cares what everyone else thinks if it makes you happy.

Thanks for the knowledge you freely p***ed on to us over the years Lil'.

How about posting some build pic's of this one, or some of your older builds?
The styling of this car might be outside the narrow path that the HAMB lies on, but the real beauty of anything you've ever done is in the construction itself.
Like a good book by a favorite author...we can't get satisfaction by just scanning the cover!!!
Read us a couple of chapters would ya!?!? ;)
