I did a search and everything I found was pretty old and I didn't get the answer I needed. I have a 1950 Baby Lincoln with a 337 and factory auto. I want to switch it out to a more modern 4 or 5 speed ******. I found the SpeedGems kit for the chevy auto and contacted them to ask about a manual adapter. What are my options? I'm not picky, if I need to use a Muncie instead of a TopLoader or whatever that's fine.
Just in case you didn’t find this old post. https://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136488&showall=1 Down at post #36. It’s 9 years old, and Joe hasn’t been around in 3 years. But it looks like unless you can find a manual transmission bell housing and adapt a more recent T-85 you’re stuck. I’d be looking at a 2004R since they make a GM adapter. Big springs for the front of whatever it’s going in.
As far as I am aware, Bendtsens / Speed Gems is the only one currently making an adaptor for the big flathead. They advertise it to adapt a Chevy auto, but it looks like any chebbie bellhousing would work, so you can probably figure out a way to put a manual behind it with the right flywheel and a bit of machining. https://transmissionadapters.com/pr...n?rq=yr_mercury-edsel-lincoln~lo_337-flathead
Anything here that you need? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/ford-truck-lincoln-big-flathead.1305578/
Thanks for the input. I did call and speak to a tech there about that and he thinks if I get a ****tershield for a SBC I can run a Muncie with minor mods. I saw another old HAMB thread that said I can adapt a Toploader to an original bellhousing if I get one from a car not a truck. I might go this way first and use the chevy option as a backup.
Hey thanks for the reply. From what I've read, the car and truck bellhousing were different so the one he has won't work for me. If I was closer to him I'd probably grab the engine parts for spares, but I'm too far away.
