I have a set of MT products Lincoln backing plates. I am a little leery about grinding on Ford spindles to get them to fit. Do they make repro Lincoln spindles? Thanks, Bill

You don't want Lincoln spindles. The angle off the king pin and the diameter is different. What spindles do you have? 39-41 might be better. The 42-48 king pin bosses stick up higher.

Andy is correct on all counts. The amount of grinding necessary is relatively minimal if you grind and fit slowly, and won't compromise the integrity of the spindles. DD

Just be careful and don't go to far, do a little at a time until they fit. Remember to allow a little extra clearance for paint or plating. I've done dozens on both repro and original spindles with no problems. The round back seem to fit and look a little better. I found the square back spindles don't fit very good.

Look for original unmolested Ford spindles, ones that haven't been heated and bent. Also don't quench the spindles after heating and shaping the steering arms when you're setting the ackerman angles, just let them air cool. I use a flap wheel to reshape the top of the early spindles, '37 to '41 round back, to fit the backing plates, go slow and don't overheat.
