My 1960 Lincoln left me stranded with the family and had to have to car towed. Now that I’m back home, I’ve replaced the starter solenoid and the starter. My car has a 302 in it though. But there is no power coming out of the solenoid, and I checked all the fuses. Any idea what else it could be ? I don’t if Lincoln used another way to power the solenoid?
OK by the numbers: Is the battery fully charged ? did you prove that by testing ir ?" Yes = move on to the next step No you didn't and assumed it was charged = test the damned thing. Do your lights, radio or other things come on ? No? start checking as to why they don't Yes? move to the next thing to check. Are the ends of your battery cables clean and connected tightly to clean bare metal contact areas? All ends of all hot and ground wires and especially the ground. Did you attempt to jump across from the battery cable on the battery side to the S post on the solenoid to see if it would kick in? auxiliary starter button or screw driver across the posts. ? If it kicks over when you jump the solenoid chances are that you may have a bad neutral safety switch. Test first and never start throwing parts at something until you actually know what the problem is. Some of this may be out of the order that one needs to do the checks.
all this what was said and a bit more . good battery Cables , power and ground . Battery power at solenoid? With ignition switch in start position power on s terminal ? Solenoid grounded ? Jump the solenoid with a screw driver does it crank ? Battery power at starter lug ?
Thanks for all the responses. good battery, all the lights and everything else works. There is a slit click at the solenoid. But no power at the out post because the starter wire and my electric fan are hooked up to it. And the fan don’t work either. I’ll check more stuff tomorrow with a meter. It was running and starting fine all day and we went to leave and it had no response when I turn the key.
