Anyone know of a source for replacement hubcaps clips for 48 Lincoln wheels? I need to replace some clips that are missing on my wheels.

I was searching for some hub cap clips for a Studebaker. If you just search "hub cap clips" in google there is a bazillion sites that come up with a variety of styles. Maybe you'll get lucky and one of them will be close to what you need.

Thanks for the response, I did try a web search and you are right lots of clips show up, but nothing is a match for the type I need. I hoped someone would have found a source for these clips. I can't be the only one that needs them. The Chevy truck clips look close but the hole is in the wrong place. I will order some and see if they will work if I redrill them. Thanks again.

  5. I've never visited the Ford Barn Site but I've heard it said that you will have a greater likelihood of getting solutions to problems from the huge FoMoCo brain trust over there.

when you go to drill the new holes, make sure you clamp that clip into something solid. Otherwise when the bit grabs its gonna tear hell out of your fingers....

Here are some pictures of the clips, the one with the rivet is the one I need. The other two are what I made, the one with the screw is made of banding steel, the other one is 18 gauge. I tried to temper the steel one, but it didn't work, not the correct steel. Haven't tried to temper the banding steel clip yet, it has some spring to it but when I put 5 of them on a wheel there not as strong as the original clips. The wheels are 48 Lincoln and I'm using 41 Lincoln hub caps on them.
The 39-58 Chevy clips may work if I redrill them, but I would rather have original clips if I can find them. Thank for the help. DSC03340.JPG DSC03341.JPG DSC03342.JPG

They will be clamped and drilled on a drill press so all the holes are in the same place.

I did see those with my web search, they fit the wide 5 wheels and have the correct shape but if the hole isn't in the right place there isn't room to redrill. I think I will order some chevy clips and try to make them work. Thanks for all the help.

Nice job on trying to replicate the clips!
Isn't it amazing how complicated one little clip can be?

Thanks, the clips were easy to make after a made a jig to press them into. Just another setback to deal with on this project I'm working on. I ordered the chevy clips this morning and will see if I can make them work, if not I'll try to find the correct steel and learn how to do the tempering. But for now its back to body work, I have to keep the project moving forward.
