I have a Ford 9'' rear in a slightly OT old vehicle. I plan on doing a gear swap in the near future and adding a detroit locker and some stouter shafts. But In the meantime I would like to weld the spiders for temporary use, just until I purchase a new set-up.

Anyways, I took my 3rd member out today, and am trying to figure out the easiest way to get to the spiders. How do I tear it down and can I just mark the position of the side adjuster screws and put them back in the same position therefore not needing to set the backlash? I have never tore into a 9" so this is all new to me. I have been looking around and haven't found much on this so I figured the HAMB'ers could help me out.

    Thanks as always gent's

Welded spiders are OK on a dirt track maybe but I think they'll skid one wheel like hell going around a corner on pavement.

Yes they definatley will, I've drove them before. Luckily this setup will see very minimal street use, and it's just temporary until I go to a Detroit. Just trying to figure out the best way to go about it, I've never tore into a 9" 3rd. before.

Come on now , you can't be serious . Just wait and do it the right way . If you are in that big of a hurry then just go to a salvage yard or U Pull It and get a truck 3rd member with a 3.50 posi in it and away you go !
