OK, so this might be a dumb question, but I am putting a line lock and two step in my 62 bel air and trying to find a good place for the*****on. On my OT Chevelle I have them in my horn*****on cause its easy to reach with my thumb, I thought about doing the same but the horn*****on/ring is so low it feels awkward. Anybody got any cool ideas? I hate the look of a spiral cord hanging off the column. Maybe some pics??? Thanks!!!
Do you have one of those fancy new fangled shifters? In my 55 I have a 1980s design ratchet shifter, which has a typical chrome rectangular shaped lever, I put the line loc*****on on it using the rubber band mount that the*****on came with. I also have a toggle switch sticking out of the shifter cover housing, to control the torque converter stall speed (switch pitch converter). Without seeing a few pictures of the interior of the car, we can only guess at where things could be mounted.
Sorry... I don't have interior pics right now. Pretty much stock interior, I have the typical hurst 4 speed shifter, chrome handle round knob. I don't have a hurst linelock so I don't have the rubber band*****on, ofcourse I could probably get one. Just tryin to get some cool ideas, maybe see what you guys have done.
In my opinion the only place for the*****on is on the Hurst shifter attached to a good close ratio Muncie. Stage the car, push the*****on and when the light goes green let go of the*****on and head for the finish line. I've done it many times with mixed results but it was never because of where the*****on was.
Never thought about a line lock for a four speed car, used mine for burn outs and launches in an automatic. Had the T handle with a*****on on a manual valve body- your hand never left the shifter.
With me it was on the dash right above the shifter so I had to reach for it . g-Force, I think, helped my reaction time pulling my body back and hand right on the shifter. Yes, the belts were tight.
I suppose I might try to find the hurst style*****on for the shifter. Right now I have the white knob with 4 speed pattern. Kinda like to keep things stock looking and hidden. I have my MSD and 2 step hidden under the dash.
We wired ours to a floor mounted GM style dimmer switch easy to just tap with your foot on automatic 4 speed maybe not so much. But I did install a Gear Venders overdrive in a 4speed OT car and they have black and White knobs with a switch built in them to activate the overdrive in and out!
I used a stop light switch from a Motor Cycle hooked to the clutch pedal so the line lock would turn on just before hittng the clutch stop..Use clutch as needed to stage, apply enough brake, clutch to floor and your held in place...I don't know how a two step is wired as when you shift the clutch being to the floor momentarily gives power to the line lock..
You could put replace the turn signal lever with hollow one, and install small push*****on knob on end. Available from some of the electrical hot rod vendors.
I think they still sell the T handle as well as the white ball knobs with the*****on on them. Try Summit, Jegs, and Speedway......
I use a marine type switch for a trolling motor. foot controlled mounted out of sight like a dimmer switch.. I think I bought it at walmart.
Mine is also home made. Didn't want to pay $60.00 for a new one so I drilled a hole for a Radio Shack*****on That I had. 0 dollars.
you could do what some foot racers did and mount it on the brake pedal on the edge but instead mount it on the clutch pedal to keep you from rolling out of the beams till the pedal is released .
tommyd, Bend up some old trim or aluminum angle and make a boarder or frame to cover up the raw edge. Love your car in the avatar by the way.
Two step will be wired to the same*****on as the line lock. Basicly when I pull up to the line I push the clutch pedal down push the brake with my right foot, hold the line lock/two step*****on, then put my right foot on the gas and to the floor. The line lock holds the car from rolling and the two step is a rev limiter that only allows the RPMs to get to what ever you set it to, say 5500. You let off the clutch, let go of the*****on and away you go!! RPMs could then go to what ever you have your red line set at.
