Technical Linkage advice

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bubblehead, Nov 15, 2014.

  1. Hello folks. I moved the fuel pressure gauge and installed the new ****erfly scoop today and I really like the looks of it. I do have one issue I need some advice on. The linkage they provided with the scoop to operate the ****erflies is only long enough to reach the front carburetor linkage. The front carburetor is only "in use" at about half throttle due to my set up with the tunnel ram. So, if I go to about half throttle the ****erflies will operate fine and open more the further I push the throttle down. I have included s a couple of pictures, what am I doing wrong here or do I just need to get another rod to reach the rear (primary) carburetor? Thanks in advance.

From your pictures it looks like you could attach the ****erfly link to the main linkage piece behind the rear stop on the front carb - though it will reverse the direction of movement for the ****erflies themselves. Other than that I think you'll have to link to the rear carb. Gotta admit, tunnel rams I've run don't have "progressive" linkage.

Make a new, longer, link rod and attach it to the rear carb.

Can you index the bracket so its strait up and down when the ****erflies are closed?it looks to be adjustable.

  5. Yes, I can pivot the red arm in any direction (it has a set screw in it). Just ended the day where it is. -Glenn

  6. attach the rod for ****er fly to the main linkage rod that ties front and rear carbs together.

That will move the link rod and ****erfly arm in the opposite direction. It may be feasible if the ****erfly arm is indexed to aim upward, changing the shaft rotation.

  8. Do what 31vicki said and flip the red arm 180* and you should be in business (or at least close)

Yea, go to Home Depot and buy an aluminum rod, cut it, thread the ends, polish it and you are ready.
