Lions Drag Strip Long Beach,CA " The Beach" "Drag City"--- Supposed to have been the strip Jan and Dean sung about in the song Drag City..
GREAT PICTURES!Brings back a WHOLE bunch of memories. The pic of Malcolm Durham's car especially.I first saw him in 1965-66 when he was running the Strip BlazerIV;a purplish Corvair F/C. I have some pics of it around when they were still in the process of extending the body and hadn't finished painting it yet.Was running at Aquasco MD along with the Ranchargers Valiant F/C,Bruce Larson's USA-1 Chevelle, and Gene Mori's Chevy powered VW(the CHEVWAGEN).Probably the last time I attended a dragstrip. Thanks for sharing the pix;they are really great! Ray
Thanks for sharing with us. Keep em coming. Wish I would have had the good sense to take pics back in those days.
Thanks, Mike...I'm gonna run these by my dad for the hell of it. I'm sure he'd remember some of the stuff. Don't happen to have a pic of a yellow '69 Camaro in the bunch, do ya? That would be weird.
Kinda makes you wonder what happened to all those old Floppers...sitting in old warehouses somewhere? R-
Next time I go down to California.......I'll dig through his stuff. Maybe I will find a yellow Camaro. I think thats about it. Mike
Smokey Yunick with a bike? Man I don't remember that. The starter in the cowboy hat does look like Smokey
The quality of the photos is awesome considering how old they are. I've enjoyed them, thanks for posting.
Great shot's...takes the chill out of the air and makes me want to go drop my 55 of the stands to take her for a spin after looking at those pic's!
Just superb pics from a great era. I love the old Funnies. Not to mention the boner I got over that '57 Chevy. A hearfelt thanks for sharing! Joel

Last time I was by there he still had a shop in Hyattsville...my home town. For the historians, he was one of, if not the first, african-american builder/driver to compete in the AFX-funny car classes.
